My son's wedding - August 1st, 2009

As I've mentioned in a couple of other threads, my son was married on Aug. 1, 2009. He and his bride are both 21 - yes that's young but I was married at the ripe age of 20 and I'm still married to the same lovely person. The wedding was beautiful. It was held outdoors at St. Edwards State Park. We were fortunate that the weather was good as the heat wave we had in Seattle broke the day before the wedding. Here's a few photos of the happy day.

My son waiting for the bride to arrive. The guy with the microphone is John Carpenter a friend of my son's who performed the ceremony.

Here's the bride (Kelsi Evelynn Kennedy) coming down the aisle. She's glancing over her shoulder to where my son is standing.

Here's the two taking their vows.

Here's Joyce doing a reading.

Here's the kiss at the end of the ceremony.

Aren't these two kids adorable? Anyway, they've been in Paris on their honeymoon for the past 9 days and get back home tomorrow. Hopefully they had a great time.

Congrats to all... looks like a lovely wedding and a happy couple.

With our only child being a daughter, I never got to experience the joy of not writing big checks for a wedding.

Here's a toast to the happy couple, hoping they learned from your example... a lifetime of wedded bliss.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Thanks Jim. But I feel I should point out that you also missed the joy of writing a check for a rehearsal dinner and a honeymoon. If you want, I can provide you with that experience. Where should I send the invoice?

Send all the invoices you want, Roger. I served my time, paid my fatherly dues. Having been involved in over 800 weddings, I know who writes what checks.

Get the kids out of the house and there's more time for you two to go play. As Barry said... stages. Enjoy 'em all. May you also be blessed with the joy of grandkids (another experience we've yet to enjoy).

Best wishes,
Jim

Roger, thanks for sharing the wedding pix with us. That is one of the many things I enjoy about the C-Brats, because we are such a "family".

Roger, you already made me feel like a "lucky man" today. Jessica has always wanted to go to France and until the economy dumped, we were going to finance a trip for her. Now, I'm hoping that when she gets married someone else will finance a trip to France and I'll then have more boat $.... :wink .

For some reason, I never had the luxury of some one else paying for a wedding. (I guess when you are older when you get married, you end up paying for it all by yourselves). We did a relatively "cheap" wedding by "constructing" a "chapel" in our woods, by falling trees, chainsawing them down the middle to make pews, an altar, and a small pew for the guitarist to sit and provide the music. The trees along the path through the woods to the chapel were adorned with ribbons and bows and at the end of the service the home video captured overhead a single bird flying away ...(I guess signifying the end of "single life"... ),

Just recently Jessica asked Carol if we'd be willing to "construct" another "chapel" to which she was told yes, with a bit of help, but not until college is completed and jobs are secured....

Roger,

Thanks for sharing such a special event in your life with us. Your pride shows.

I'm amazed at the rate different people mature. My sister got married at 19 and is still married to the same man. I got married at 34 for the first and hopefully only time. My sister had a child after 2 years of marriage, I waited 6 years.

Marriage is no easy jaunt, but your son has a good role model in you.

My best to your son, your 'new' daughter, and to you and your entire extended family.

Great pics! Congrats to the family.

'Chainsaw chapel' is a great story!

Age might or might not matter -- we got married at 19. 2 kids, 2 bachelor's degrees, and one Ph.D. later -- 44 years and counting. It looks like I'll have to keep her after all. I guess that's why I call her my 'one and only'. She's the only one I could imagine putting up with me all those years.

iggy
