Mounting kicker at dock?

Our boat is at a marina in Seattle and the trailer is far away. We'd like to be able to hang the 9.9 kicker and remove it while it is at the dock. It's a straight dock, so we can't back into a slip and get access that way.

For now, we're just planning on using the outboard clamps, but later we'd probably drill the transom and install more permanently.

Is it crazy to try installing the kicker from the motor well? Has anyone done this with a 9.9?
 
Not crazy- just cumbersome. The motor weighs 80+ pounds, so it takes two people (at least) to lift and set. Put a line on the motor- just in case. :shock:
 
If you have trim tabs you'll not be able to mount it w/out it hitting the tab; it won't be far enough away from the transom. Other than that, it's just lowering a lot of awkward weight on a slippery boat. :wink: Out 9.9 weighs just over 100 lbs IIRC.
 
I have used the Garhauer Davit for handling things of this nature on the first 22, the 25 and Tom Cat. I have also manually put 9.9's on several smaller boats and dinghies when I was younger. Today I would do it with a davit.

On our Cal 46, we had a 15 and 25 hp (commercial; weight was over 125 lbs), and we used a self designed davit to hoist those outboards from the RIB to brackets on each side of a radar arch across the transom. Bigger boat, but same principle.
 
is there a sling hoist at the marina???

....just pull it out, pop the kicker into the pickup while it hangs in the sling then relaunch the boat
