More Questions for Tomcat Rigging

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the advice so far.

I resolved my minor electrical issue that likely occurred during the 900 mile delivery. A ground wire for the tilt/trim on the port engine was loose. The nut fell off and the wire wasn't firmly connected. I'd like to specifically thank Mark at Wefing Marine for the advice. The guy is three time zones away from me and gave me several ideas on the root cause of my issue. Thank you Mark!

I have a few more questions for you experienced C-Brats:

1) Where is a good place and method to mount a throw cushion?
2) Same question for a landing net.
3) My boat seems to list a little to starboard. It's bone dry and seems well balanced as far as gear goes. Any ideas?
4) What position should I have my battery positions on start-up and running? I have them on both on "off" when in the berth.

I'm sure I'll have more questions later. This board is incredible!

We have our net mounted on a folbe rod holder connected to the port side vertical grab rail (attached to the bulkhead). Its great to be able to quickly grab it yet out of the way.

Your tomcat lists to the starboard side likely because the older Tomcat 255's had the water tank on the starboard side creating unequal weight from side to side.

The newer 255 relocated the water tank to the passenger side. It balanced the weight out better.

shows where I mounted our throw ring.

our TomCat anchor is a Bruce 16.5lb........
great for this part of the east coast.

I had a Bruce on our sailboat that we used through out the Caribbean with 100% chain..........that was the best for us

According to the manual you should never run on both. If you drain down both you have no back up. Depending on your set up it will also effect charging. The tomcat user manual has more information on this.

I changed the wiring on the Tomcat so that each battery was "1" to its engine, and "2" for a house battery. I then put a VSR on each engine start battery, so that that start battery and house battery would charge from its respective engine. I added another switch, where "1" was starboard start, and "2" was port start--both combined them.

I don't remember what the initial wiring was, but it did not make a lot of sense to me at the time. I also added two more AGM batteries, for the freezer--and ran those off the port engine, with a second VSR.

Thanks Bill.

I should have mentioned that I have cockpit helm controls on the starboard side of the bulkhead.

I like that picture...

You'll notice that the shower enclosure, stove, sink, plumbing, helm stations and steering is all on the starboard side. Adding a Port water tank or batteries under the dinette will help even things out. Load the fridge up with beer too!
