Thinking about buying one or maybe 2 if the Admiral likes it. The ES-Kape is the only model they now make. Anyone familiar with the new model?

I have one on order. They haven't shipped any yet so I don't think there will be much to report right now.

They build great products. I had one of the earlier editions with a 5hp Honda that I picked up at the factory in New York. The designer owner of the business finished setting our Mokai up while I waited. This guy is upfront and serious about building a quality product. The original design idea was for a Mokai to last ten years before needing any real major service. The guy I sold mine to just went up the Hudson river to Lake Champlain in five days from New York City this summer. He said the lock tenders were amazed and had never seen one before. The idea of a three piece unit is going to open up their market to folks with smaller vehicles. http://www.mokai.com/the-mokai-es-kape/

I've seen kayaks at BassPro that work the same way. The Mokai is nice, but it is a bit pricey.

I see that the new model can do 20 mph. thats a lot better then the older models. Still pricey at $4500.

I guess when you consider Hobie's Pro Angler Kayak at over $2500.00 and PWC in the $10,000.00 to 15,000.00 range. Not to mention pickup trucks now hitting $60,000.00. Maybe the price really isn't that bad. The problem with us old people is we think back to when we bought a bike for $100.00 and now you can spend $3000.00 for one. I guess times change.

At $4800 dollars you can't find anything that will do 20mph that can run any cheaper. Cost of ownership means a lot these days. I know people who have nice boats that cost a lot more than $4800 that can't afford to run them. That's no deal either. I can understand that they are not everyone's cup of tea.

Jay let me test drive his in Alaska and it was a blast. I don't know if he had the Honda or Subaru engine, but it was plenty fast.

Being able to store the thing in less space is appealing. I don't think it's small enough to put on a C-Dory (without a real commitment of space) but it'd make transporting in a truck much easier. Will the collapsible model be as durable as the older models?

After using Jay's, I plan on buying one when I get a bigger boat that has space to store it and a davit to launch it.

Does anyone know if they're considered a PWC for licensing purposes? Can they be used in San Juan County?

They look like they would be fun to use.
