Mobile Broadband Connectivity ...

It appears there is a new satellite being planned for mobile broadband connectivity. Read the story at: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/7109545.stm
Although it does not appear this will directly affect the US - spinoff's (spread of technology, price reductions, etc) may be in the offing. Our military currently has very sophisticated broadband capabilities worldwide, and this may open the door for the commercialization of some of those technologies to be privatized (remember the first days of GPS?).

In any case, this is still a way off in the Future, so I wouldn't throw out my PMCIA gizmo just yet!

The above link works if you remove the "." at the end of the URL. I think that the problem with much of these marine satellites are the expense of use. We had looked into the various satellite plans, and they only seemed to make sense, if you were running a business from a ship voyaging. There are so many less expensive alternatives, unless immediacy was essential. It will be interesting to see how these next generations of satellite impact the costs of use. It may make them more affordiable.
