just wanted to tell you that you missed one heck of a Lutefisk feed today....lol....
The local Lions Club puts on an annual Lutefisk feed as a fund raiser for their scholarship program.
people come from far & near for the tasty treat. they served about four hundred people in about 5 hours.
 
Roger, posting these controversial topics is just asking for trouble.

Uncle Einar ( down there on the farm in Decorah, by Luther College don't ya know ) tells me that lutefisk when translated from Norwegian equates to fish jello.

This just in...

Approximately 400 people in the Pacific Northwest have taken ill, apparently from eating something unnatural. While not life threatening, the walls of the bathrooms in the local Lions Club have been splattered with what some are describing as a "technicolor yawn." :disgust

Wow - think of how much money they would have raised and how many people they would have served had they provided something that was edible! :wink:
 
Oooooh - Roger - we're heading over to the Sons of Norway for our fix - thanks for reminding us.

Hmmm - Jim's post also reminds us of a tale we heard from the Sons of .... last year - The Brits actually 'invented' lutefisk. After a few pillaging visits by Vikings, they decided to take action. When the Viking ships appeared on the horizon, the English grabbed some seals, gave them a Heimlich and out popped the fixings for lutefisk. They soaked the stuff in lye, and fed their 'guests' the first lutefisk. That was the end of the invasions. The Vikings never strayed farther than 50 feet from the closest toilet. It also explains the large migrations that began a few years later to the New World.

Yummmm - I can smell a distinctive odor ... er aroma ... wafting in on the breeze ... El, break out the akvavit ...
 
Before moving "up here" in mid-'99 I had NEVER heard of that "lutefisk" stuff (not many Norwegians in Hawai'i :lol: ). Still don't really know what it is and obviously have never had it. I think I'll keep that streak going thanks to this thread.
 
Out of thoughtfulness for you all, I won't post the recipe for making lutefisk!
 
Thanks, Pat - but we already know all you need is a seal with a stomach ache and some lye. :x

Roger (Sensei) deserves the credit for the photo. He took it last year when we attended the CBGT at Fisherman's Terminal. Didn't know at the time that it'd be perfect for a 'lutefisk' thread.
 
I was missinformed about how many were served. they actualy fed 935
