MIDWEST (LAKE ERIE/LAKE ST. CLAIR) KIND-OF-GATHERING

"Maybe the CD fleet might be interested in an informal gathering/ rendezvous somewhere" was a line from a posting back when the water was hard and there were a few other "small talk" postings about MIDWESTERN CDs.
Is anyone out there (since I was out of it for a while)?!? Are the Ohio CDs anchoring near Port Clinton? Are CDs cruising the Detroit River??

Valkyrie is docked at Bass Haven Marina in East Harbor just east of Port Clinton.

We're up for a rendezvous. Anyone else?

I noticed last night you were posting a reply to MIDWEST GATHERING.... just like fishing, I'm giving it a little more time for more bites!!

Hi Bruce

Well you got another bite. The C-Batical is often on Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River cruising with my old boating friends. Most of the time is spent up in the Anchor Bay area near Strawberry Island or the New Baltimore Highway hanging out with my old boating friends. Also, I do spend a lot of time fishing and cruising the Lake Erie and the lower Detroit River.

I was brought up boating and fishing on Lake St Clair. Likewise, we continued to boat there and raised our family, up to high school age on this magnificent body of water. We used to have a place up near Decker's Landing. My job took us to the Ann Arbor area 18 years ago and we switched from Sea Rays to pontoon and ski boats. Three seasons ago I retired, bought a C-Dory, and I am now back cruising and fishing the "big waters". I trailer my boat, so I try to avoid the busy launch sites. On the weekends. I prefer to stay home and spend time pontooning on the chain of lakes where we now live. It would be fun to get together sometime. Maybe we can entice Mark/ Not For Hire and Nick/Valkyrie come over to our neck of the woods.

Best regards,
Rollie/C-Batical

Rollie,

I wouldn't mind running up the Detroit River to Lake St. Clair for a get-together. Marcia probably couldn't make it, though. One of her employees just left for Maine after getting married and they are short handed right now and she doesn't have her usual flexibility in scheduling.

Our five day weekend in August will be camping and trout fishing in the western part of MI, after a day on Lake MI with Mark chasing salmon on Not-for-Hire!

Nick:

In favorable conditions it takes about two hours to run the length of the
Detroit River from Lake Erie to Lake St. Clair. There are some very good public launch sites near Monroe, MI that are not very busy during the week. During the weekend they can get crazy as they do on Lake St. Clair. My preference would be to do something during the week (after the walleyes leave Michigan for Ohio). If we can coordinate our schedules a day trip would be fun. My boat is always available if you prefer to leave your boat moored at Marblehead. Maybe we can get Mark to join us. Also, any recommendations for transient dockage in Marblehead or nearby. For the last few years we have been visiting a friend on Kelleys Island on or around Labor Day weekend. I thought this year it may be fun to go by boat.

Best regards,
Rollie/C-Batical

Rollie,

I would like to make a run up to your area, should be fun mixing it up-close-and-personal with the 1000 footers on the Detroit River. I did it years ago on my Jeanneau sailboat, with 7.5 raging hp at the ready!

You could stay at my marina if you come this way. In fact, there is an empty dock right behind Valkyrie and I'm sure the marina owners would let you stay there. Bass Haven is a fairly small mon-and-pop kind of place. Let me know how things develop and I'll see what I can do for you.

By the way, I'm heading to AZ for a week, leaving tomorrow, so if I don't reply, you know why.

By the way, Marcia and I just got back from two days on the lake and she put me to shame on the walleyes on Friday! She caught 5 nice and ones and I got zip! Same rods, reels, lures, lines and techniques.

Go figure.

Best regards,

Nick

Nick:

I am heading up tomorrow AM to the St. Marys River near Detour for a little herring fishing. It looks like my trip to Mexico is not going to occur which will free up some time. Let's get back together to plan something when both get back from our trips.

Best regards,
Rollie/C-Batical

Count one more in for a MIDWEST GATHERING. I run the St. Clair river and Lake St Clair every weekend and would love to meet up with other C-Dory owners. We have a cottage on an Island in the lower St. Clair river and have only stayed one night on our boat and it was great. This would give use another chance. Let me know if a midwest gathering happens.

MIDWEST C-DORY-ers...
I'm around most of the time on the South end of Lake St. Clair; I'm just waiting for Nick and Rollie to get back from vacations to see what their plans might be for this area.
LARRY ON ODYESSY....were you and your boat on North Ave. at a restaurant on early last Saturday moring??? I saw a 22'-er on a trailer in there.

Greetings Michigan Brats:

I am back from the U.P, eh! I had a super time fishing and cruising the St. Mary's River. Tomorrow, it is Lake St. Clair with friends who are landlubbers and have a tendency to get a little sea sick when it gets bumpy. We are launching from the DNR ramp near Selfridge Air Base. We plan to show our guests where we used to spend our time. Probably, we will head up the St. Clair River & then down the South Channel ending up at Strawberry Island. Larry, I don't think we will make it as far as Fawn Island. When Nick returns from AZ, let's see if we can plan something. It would be fun to have Mark ( Not-for Hire) make it down.

Best regards,
Rollie/C-Batical
