My wife Joan, and I, met some great representatives of the C-Brats last week in Old Saybrook, CT. We had traveled to New England to attend a Navy reunion, and before we left Missouri, I checked the Brat Map for owners near the site of the reunion. Finding a C-Dory close by, I sent the owners, Dan and Barb Aube, a message. My message stated that we would be near their home port, and if our schedules allowed, that perhaps we could meet and learn more about their 22' Cruiser. Dan replied that they would be happy to meet with us.
After my reunion, Joan and I traveled to Old Saybrook, and were treated to a land tour of the town with Dan and Barb. A wonderful water tour of the Connecticut River and a bit of the Long Island Sound followed. Their CD 22 Cruiser, "Happy Ours", is an immaculate vessel, and the Aubes are truly fantastic folks. They insisted that we stay the night with them, and we are so glad that we accepted their gracious offer. We dined at a great little cafe by the river that night, and even though Barb "didn't have anything in the house to make for breakfast", she and Dan served up a world class fare of fresh fruit, hot coffee, delicious sausage, and more the next morning.
We hope to one day own a C-Dory, and to visit with Dan and Barb again, as well as other C-Brats. If the majority of the members are as welcoming as our new friends in Old Saybrook, we know that we will have many, many friends to boat with within the C-Brat community. Thanks, again, Dan and Barb. Take care, and know that you have a home in the Ozarks to make your own if ever you travel this way!
