massive layoff, 1/3 of payroll cut

the kid is no longer on the payroll :) after years of college to get his Nuclear Med Tec BS degree he has finally launched. The last year of the program is an externship with a lottery to determine your location....such tourist meccas like Yuma, Tri-Cities WA, LA and Reno are available, he drew Bend OR. He managed to parlay the externship into a part time, on call position which allowed a livable income and lots of fishing and skiing time but still, we end up paying for things like tires..... NO MORE, the goober has to start working full time (full benefits) next month and will be making more than I do (the turd) now I have to hit him the offspring tax to help fund that tomcat I aim to buy someday

If any of you happend to wander through Bend and feel the need for an injection of some kind of radioactive goo, look him up

Congrats Ken. My day will (knock wood) come in June 2012. My boy is already earning a decent income working part time while he goes to school and has several companies interested in hiring him full time. I just have to pay to more quarters of private school tuition and then (assuming all goes well), I get to reduce my payroll also.

Ken,
Congrats on getting the kid off the gravy train!
We had a little celabration when both of our kids graduated from collage and became gainfully employed.
Now I just have to pay for the daughters wedding next fall.
Our Tom Cat dreams are on hold until the wedding is paid for.

Hi Ken,

We got the kid through college, out of the house, and married over 10 years ago... I'm still waiting for the reimbursement checks to show up. Good luck with that plan.

Congrats to your son! :thup

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Nice Ken! Congrats to you, your wife AND your son. Always a great feeling to know you (and he) did something right and w/ a very technical medical degree he should be game-fully employed for life.

thanks all, It sure takes a load off to not have the feeling of needing to help the kid.....he's worked all through school and covered most of his expenses, but still, there's always that constant drip of negative cash flow....oh happy days

Larry, make sure your daughter marries a guy with a TC :)

I'm now on the hunt for an older style TC if anybody runs across a good deal on one

Congratulations BC. I'm still looking forward to the day! I do feel that it is getting closer. Already, J has taken on more of the financial responsibility and that has been of her own choosing, so I'm thrilled about that. I don't see that cute little face with "put on" sad smile and twinkling eyes looking up at me saying "Daddyyyyyyy". (You know that kind of look that melts a dad.... ).

(As far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't be disappointed if she married some guy that owned a yacht with a helicopter, and a couple of C-Dorys on the flight deck......then perhaps I could have the vessel du jour that I request..... :xlol )

man the years have clicked by haven't they...it seems like not that long ago I caught you and your crew on film dancing away in your 16 footer

Yes you did & the picture still flashes up on the C-Brat homepage. I'd forgotten who took the picture. We were dancing to some country western song on the radio.....or was it a cassette player.... . I smile every time I see that picture!

As Bob Hope use to sing.... :note thanks for the memories... :note

As the former General Counsel and Director of Public Affairs for the Society of Nuclear Medicine -- congrats to your kid. Tell him to get PET/CT qualified!

As the father of four who are all married off as of this past October 15 and gainfully employed congrats to you guys.

As the grandfather of 4 plus one due December 16, I feel like the spending has started all over again -- air fare to visit, clothes and toys, college fund, etc.

I WILL GET ANOTHER BOAT AND RETIRE SOME DAY! (Shout intended!)

cool, I remember you mentioning your NucMed ties. The kid passed two different board exams & continues to try to improve his lot.

S&%#, you mean I'll probably have to go through this again with grand kids someday? I will need a bigger boat fer sure.

Being a grandfather is the best. You can fund the college fund, purchase some clothes and such, and generally spoil the grand kids. Then at the end of the day you give them back and have someone else do all the hard work. Best job in the world.

Congratulations Ken,
I remember well the day I went over the Columbia Bar with you and your son to go coho fishing. He was a good boy then and sounds like he's a good man now.

He certainly picked a thriving trade. Us baby boomers are going to keep his generation of health care professionals very well employed for a long time.

oops, I didn't think about the long range fiscal possibility of having to fund grandkids college.....but ya know, when that yet to be born pack of hooligans get out of college and I hit them with the offspring tax it might be Nordic tug time :) this could be a helluve pyramid scheme

Lyle, thanks, I don't know why or how, but the kid turned out pretty good (maybe it was the steady dose of fishing). We sure enjoyed fishing with you down at Ilwaco. I miss fishing there, someday I'll again have a boat down there and we'll need to do that again
