Marinaut?

Not a good sign for the Marinaut I suppose. Hopefully they will get some boats built soon.

Don't let the lack of a reply in the first 24 hr news cycle give you the wrong impression. I am sure there are orders on the books and that production is underway. You might want to email them and see how long the waiting list is?

At the Sequim gathering Dave mentioned orders already coming in and the one of the first was ordered with lots of accessories that were going to take some figuring out for initial install in the boat.

I might consider a Marinaut instead of a 22 but I still can't figure out one question...Am I still a C-brat with a Marinaut instead of a C-dory?

A few years back, there was an ugly situation here with the C-Dory/Cape Cruiser "debates". With recent mention of some folks who worked on the C-Dorys during the day, then helped with the Cape Cruisers in the evening... well, there was a lot of... um... discussion; about loyality, infringement, non-compete clauses, and who did what to what boats. It led to a real divide between the CD folks and the CC upstarts. Unnecessarily, had the situation been handled forthright.

Oldgrowth Dave has been most forthright about the development of the Marinaut and has created a boat that is unique. It certainly has the same "bloodlines" with the partnership of Ben Toland, but it is a separate "branch" in the family tree (from my point of view).

While traveling a few years back, we met a couple Cape Cruiser owners who were concerned about acceptance here because of their choice of boat (even after the court settlement between the principals). They were all nice people who have the same interests as the rest of us. And name aside, the boats are more similar than they are different (remember that "bloodlines" comment above). It's good that they've been brought into the fold.

If there's any question, my vote would be to welcome the Marinaut owners here with open arms. We can all learn from each other. And Oldgrowth Dave is most certainly a C-Brat... one of the first we met after we picked up Wild Blue. And, old(growth) friends are good friends.

I hope there will be plenty of business for both boat lines.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

I really didn't intend to resurect old hate and discontent or "discussions." I think the Marinaut is awesome for a lot of reasons and I absolutely love our gatherings that we have. "If" and when I upgrade my 16 to either a 22 or a Marinaut, well, lets just say I'll continue to hang around.

Well, I sure don't claim to speak for everyone, but there is no hate or discontent here. We're all just a fun-luvin' bunch of boat enthusiasts. Shucks, I wave to everyone out on the water.

Well, OK, when those big ol' sportfishers go by and toss a 6' wake, I don't wave with my whole hand. 8)

after carefull study of the C-Brat internet yacht club rules and by-laws, it appears that oficially you would be a Marinaut-Brat and be limited to posting only durring non-peak hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays except on the third Friday of the month when you can post at will. Do I read it right? all that legal stuff confuses me

Has anyone ordered one yet?

Are you "not ordering one" just because you don't want to be first?

Charlie
No Charlie, I think I am going to wait until they figure all the bugs out with installs.

Ah, Ken; one conflict with that rule. Tivo is already a C-Brat. Article 9, Section 4b states: Once a Brat, always a Brat. He would, therefore, be accorded full posting rights concurrent with that article.

Feel free to move to a CD-22 or an M-215, DoryLvr. Heck, we have Ranger Tug owners here, at least a couple bigger trawler owners, a Rossi owner or two, and even some (gasp) no-longer-boat-owners... not to mention Pat, who put a thruster on his non-C-Dory powercruiser. ALL included with full posting rights thanks to Article 9, Section 4b.

aw, I see, I had spilled an adult beverage on the page that contained section 4b and couldn't quite make it out

You obviously know something we do not. What "bugs with installs"??

Charlie
Charlie,

I think he is referring to the inevitable issues that come up anytime a company builds a new thing and starts making modifications. While Dave and Ben are real good, I'm still willing to bet that they will learn a little more/come up with new ideas on each and every boat they build and on each and every modification. I know of very few instances in any product where somebody says "You know we got everything exactly right the first time around".

That is exactly what I am refering to. Read post number four Charlie and Dave mentions that they need to figure some installation issues out on a boat that has been ordered with alot of accessories.
I am confident they will figure it out in due time.

Cheers!

Thanks. I see now. Your plan is to wait until things are "perfect" and then buy the perfect boat.

Good luck with that, you will probably never have a boat, meanwhile those with less than perfect boats are out having a good time on the water.
