I am surprised that your boat does not have a 360 degree light--what do you do for an anchor light, or white steaming light?

Me too. Still I need one, so I will have to research those options.

I have the anchor light on the pole that slides into that damn leaky socket. I hope to fix that while I am up there.

On the Float on Trailer it is somewhere about 12 feet high.

I was off on my recollection then. OK, so I have to keep everything within one foot, except the antennas, which I'll put down when trailering.

The 360 degree light, which you have, is both a steaming light and an anchor light. One way on the nav light switch turns only it on, the other way, turns on the red and green and the all around white.

You have to remove the socket from the cabin house. You then route out both the screw holes, and the core around the light, and fill with thickened epoxy. Finally as you re-bed the anchor light, be sure that the wire is well embeded in a compound such as Boat Life "Life Seal"--a combination silicone/urethane compound. You want the wires to be flexiable enough to make the contacts, but also seal the hole. There is no reason if properly beded, that this will leak.

Well that explains it. Mine is only white, no matter which way I flip the switch. I guess I better fix that.

Well that explains it. Mine is only white, no matter which way I flip the switch. I guess I better fix that.

No you're good to go. The light should only be white when you turn it on.

Bob was referring to the light rocker switch at the helm. One direction will turn on the all around light only on the roof ("anchor" position) and the other direction will turn on your running lights and all around light ("running" position).

Wow - I totally misunderstood that. :shock:

What threw me was the term, "steaming light", which I acutally thought was unique to sailboats, and that steaming lights should be tri-color when under way. So, I misunderstood Dr. Bob's point to be that my anchor light should therefore be tricolor when I flipped on the running lights.

In fact the mast head tricolor is only usable when a sailing vessel is under sail--not under power. The tricolor is red port, Green Stb, and white aft with sectors equal to the normal running rights.

A Steaming light is 225 degree forward sector white light. On a sailboat it would normally be about 2/3 up the mast--on a power vessel it must be at least one meter above the red and green navigation lights.

However, a vessel less than 12 meters (about 39 feet) can run a single all around white light instead of the forward 225 degree steaming light (or missnomer "masthead light" and the 135degree stern light.

So as long as your have the all around light which is used as both an anchor and steaming or masthead light--on with the side lights (red and green) you are good to go. If the red and green are not on, then you either have a fuse or wiring problem (remotely could be burned out bulb, but unlikely both lightsI).
