Luci Inflatable Solar Lantern $14.95

Casey and I saw one of these things (looks like a small clear beach ball...only instead of being round, its a stubby, cylinder shape) on another boat in Elizabeth City, NC. When I asked, "what's that?", the owners GUSHED how it was WONDERFUL, AMAZING, blah, blah, blah. Basically the best thing since sliced bread. Hummmm. Well, let me report that we are now the proud new owners of two of these cool little things and they really are pretty fantastic.

You blow it up with 2 breaths, put it out in the sun during the day and when you hit the on button, watch out because they are BRIGHT. Lights up the entire v-berth area and we have one hanging over the dinette table. Definitely enough light to read by. Has three settings, low, high, and flashing. We've only use them a few days but they really are pretty amazing.

I picked one of these up last year at West Marine--impulsive buy. So far it is working well. Not a lot of light, but sort of a good night light--yes fun, but I don't see it as practical. We have all LED lights in the Cabin, so our current draw is minimal any way, and we use what ever lights we need at night.
 
Oh these are fun little lights!

We have LED's on the boat as well, plus an LED Spotlight, anchorlight, a couple of smallish LED flashlights, and I wouldn't be without my LED headlamps! "Let there be Light!" :-)

But one of the advantages I've already found with the Lumi's is that you can take it anywhere, and they're even waterproof! Put one on the finger pier where the fixed light is burned-out, attach it to the anchor to find your way home at night, and you can put it anywhere as a convenient reading light (our V-berth lights aren't in very convenient locations). And no batteries needed!

I love it(!) ...and you say they come I different colors?!

Order the Sunbright ones. Has great potential for many uses other than standard lighting - like tie it and throw it overboard to attract small fish, shrimp lights, backup anchor light...
 
The beauty of these little gems is they are waterproof, lightweight, put out plenty of light for reading, or to light up a small area, and no batteries to replace. They've gotten rave reviews from boaters, backpackers and survivalists. Great for hurricane or 'bug-out' kits.

Saw the first one a few weeks ago being used as an outdoor 'porch light' on a large catamaran sailboat. We had gone out with these folks for dinner and when we came back, our boat was dark and theirs had a well-lit entryway.

Tonight, after dark, while docked in Annapolis's 'Ego Alley', we saw a group of 10 stand up paddle boarders with a Luci attached to the front of each paddle board. Wow! What a great use for these. They are waterproof, and bright making whatever they are attached to very visible at night. Dinghy, kayak/canoe ... and a perfect back-up anchor light.

Sunlight (3 for $20 with $8 shipping) comes out to only $9.33 each. Great deal! And they look comparable to the Luci at $15 from Amazon. So close, in fact, that Luci and Sunlight are suing each other. If it weren't for the lawsuit, we'd buy stock.

After seeing the ones tonight on the paddle boards, it will be interesting to see all the other uses in the future. They are already using them in third world countries and areas with no electricity.

Received the gizmos and promptly filled one up with air and tossed it in the pool. Left it powered up for 5 hours at night and it was still going strong - not as strong as the start, but strong. I suspect chlorine isn't good for them, but let's see if it deteriorates.

I'll do it a several more times. Next time I'm night fishing I think I'll hang one off the stern and see if I can bring up some Snapper.
