Im new to the board and boating for that matter. Im looking at buying a 1983 22' classic. im wondering what a good 83 vintage boat is worth. I havent seen it yet, looks good in the pics. It has a 100hp 4 stroke yamaha, dont know the year. Hes asking 18k for it. Does this sound fair?
Im hoping to look at it tomorrow, if so ill take some pics and post them. Also, is there anything I should look for as far as trouble in a C-Dory that old? Thanks for any thoughts.

Welcome to the site and the ranks of C-Dory wannabees (not a pejorative term by the way :) ). You are asking questions which have been asked and answered many times on this site. Try using the search function or the forums list and look for things like: C-Dory pricing, What to look for, etc. etc. I'm not trying to push your questions aside, I just suggest you try to find answers in the archives first.

Sorry to tell you that it is sold. It was owned by a friend of mine and it is exactly like mine.
$18k was an "OK" price.

Boy that was a quick sale--I think. But rschid, Welcome Aboard! The boat hull had a slight change in 1987 to a slightly more "V" bottom foreward from the more true semi dory flat bottom aft. There are been some other slight changes thru the years, But most of the older boats have held up very well.

The older boats prices are so variable because it depends on condition and equiptment. The newer 4 stroke engine certainly adds value. It would also depend on the presence of a good "kicker" (usually 8 to 15 hp auxillary engine), and other modifcations.

I have seen newer boats go for much less, but they may need a new engine, electronics--that brings the price up significantly in the long run.

The search engine is not as specific, especially in this type of question. I wonder if it might be a good idea to put on "sticky's" which are on some other sights I frequent? That is a thread which stays at the top of the pages--or is very easily accessed, which answers these very frequent questions: such as changes in the years, twins vs single and a few other subjects which come up almost every month.

For example the Class A RV forum has:"First time buyer"--and it is 42 pages long. "Breakdown" is 63 pages long etc. Perhaps a subject on the top bar where "home" is located, with "FAQ about C Dories"

Bob,
Good suggestion on the sticky note thing. It would eliminate a lot of repetition and help the new folks out.

Actually the boat was for sale for over a month and parked right on the highway here. It is the one I previously mentioned that had the rotten transom. It was repaired by cutting the top edge off, digging out all of the rotten wood and filling up the void with epoxy. Then the top edge was glassed back on and a 1/4" alum. plate on the outside and inside. It seemed to be fixed ok.

Thanks guys, Ya the gentleman call me back and told me it was sold. Guess I "missed the boat" so to say. But ill keep looking although there doesnt seem to be many C-Dory's on the market. Thanks again
