I went out for albacore on Sat. and wound up fishing off the BC coast (Louden Canyon). We got 22 albacore and this gem.

I had hamchi sushi on the boat last night.

very nice. how big is it? 20-25 lbs?

I didn't weigh it. I'm guessing it was around 15-20. The WA state record is 20.5 lbs. I caught this one in BC and I don't think there is a record for yellow tail there. They're pretty rare in our area. I haven't heard of any caught around here on the various web forums.

Nice work! A good friend of mine commercially fished tuna and with all they brought on board, a yellowtail was a huge rarity...I bet that sashimi was delish!

Im curious what you were using for gear when you caught it? How cool!

That is a happy grin on your face! For good reason :)

Paul,

Here's the gear we were using -

-pretty standard clones. The ones that seemed to work the best were the P-line, jet head clones.

Nice fish. Is there a chance that warmer water currents are bringing these fish North?

We get warm currents each year off our coast. You just need to get off the continental shelf to find the warm water. Some years it's a bit warmer than others but I don't think this year is particularly unusual. We were in about 65F water when we caught this one. I think I just got lucky.
