Does anyone have experience mounting a Lonestar GX 2 winch on their CDory 22 cruiser?
I think that's the one I'm going to get, but I want to hear from others first if there's something better or if there are problems with installing this one

It’s my next project after the repower is done

Search the site. There is another thread recenty and several in the past about deck mounting this anchor line reel winch.

You may have to cut and paste that link above but it shows a recent install of the GX2 on a 22. We are going this route after a refit and upcoming repower.

We did about 2 years of research and have settled on the gx2. There is also some other good info/ pics on here to search for.

After speaking with the Factory and purchasing the GX1, I posted this PM to another member:

"This GX2 that you have ordered is actually unnecessarily too large. Not that it will hurt anything but just not necessary. You will love it. I prefer the under spool option though

I've not installed my GX1 yet. I've no Garage and it was still snowing here until recently.
The cool thing about the GX2 is the ability to hold more larger Dia rode. 30'of 1/4"chain, 100'+/- 12mm Dyneema and the rest 6mm. This should be nice for anchoring in all the famous fisheries.

I'm planning to mount mine close to the cabin and as an underspin as I think it will feed better. I'm planning to use a large walnut plank as an anchor sprit and will probably mount a self bailing roller to the end of that. So the sprit/roller will be 8-12 inches longer than my current setup. I want to use my Fortress Guardian up there instead of the claw I have there now. The claw will then be stored at the back.

I'm not sure how tightly the winch can go to the cabin as the winch motor may hit. But perhaps it can be possible to spin it around and place the motor facing forward and the spool all the way back near the cabin, the switch the wires so that the motor spins the other way. In the end I feel it will be easy to step over the rode when walking around up front. Furthermore there is no reason to go up front to address this winch. If you have a self launching roller and are using this winch there is literally no reason to go forward. The winch itself will not peel out without pushing the button, worm gears do not allow it to peel off."

I hope to have my GX1 installed by July. If I can't find the time to do it myself I may have to break down and pay someone to install it for me.
