Little Kicker

I sold my Honda 2hp long shaft last year, after I sold my sailboat. It had been used on the zodiac, as well as the Montgomery and my Gregor. I am going to replace it with another kicker, but have not made up my mind regarding which to buy. On the short list are the Yamaha and Suzuki 2.5s.

I want an engine with neutral and fwd, and one that will run at low idle so that I can troll with it. I may also put it on an 18' canoe. Although the Honda was a great little kicker, it would not troll slow enough due to the centrifugal clutch.

Marc, Matt, Ryan: Any thoughts from the dealers?

What experience have others had????

I had the Suzuki 2.5. I had gotten rid of a Honda 2 hp for the same reasons. My feeling is that the Suzuki was closer to a 3 to 3.5 hp--it had lots of thrust. Definately the clutch and low idle are excellent. Always easy to start. Light enough to handle easily.

We've liked both the Suzuki and Yamaha. The Yamaha is a bit more upscale in some of it's design, especially the throttle/handle design. The Suzuki has a design like the Honda with the Stainless Steel tube housing the throttle cable.

I give a slight edge to the Suzuki because it is $100 less than the Yamaha.
