Amazing what our little boats will do.

Donna was working but I had today off, so I launched the boat by myself to put her in a slip at John Wanye Marina. Since we always boat together, Donna and I each have our respective launch duties. After backing down into the water and floating the boat, I got out and tried to push the boat off the trailer like usual. That's when I noticed the boat AND the rear of the trailer both moving away from the dock. Holy crap! The damn transom tie-downs were still attached. Uhh, that's Donna's job. Boy, I must have looked like quite the idiot... :oops: :oops: :oops: Thankfully, no one was around to see my stupidity. Never done THAT one before...oh, well, at least I managed to put it in a slip without banging up anything. :roll:

It just proves it can happen to anybody.

At least you didn't post the story on the internet or anything. Now, where did I put that Twitter...
 
I have heard of boat owners who live on islands not wanting to pay to haul the trailer across the ferry, so will leave it tied to the boat to make the journey to the island's boat ramp.

This plan only works if the intent is to never leave the island with the trailer, which is often the case....
 
In my next part of the tale of our summer cruise I was going to tell about the one really big blooper I made. Now after all those :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: I don't know.

Actually its good to see even a professional rescue guy who's life depends on him and his fellow Coasties making very few mistakes can screw up on occation just like me. You can minamize the screw ups, but I haven't met anybody yet able to stop them altogether.

Did the same thing once while launching a friend's wake-board boat on Lake Tapps. "Why isn't the boat floating free of the trailer?" :?

But in my defense I was driving the truck and my two other buddies were in charge of prepping the boat for launch. Hey, at least they put the plug in....
 
Yeahhhhh, I figured everyone needed a little humor...

The worst part was that I WAS wearing a CG shirt. I get a pass on that one, though...I'm a helo guy. :wink:
 
Sounds vaguely like a popular recurring Bayliner story about the guy who just couldn't get his new boat on plane............At least you didn't take it back to the dealership......

At times like this, it is always "helpful" if no one is around to watch the screw up. Launching single handed is a recipe for this kind of thing. I did it once. Of course when I drove forward, the boat didn't want to leave, and the guides kept things centered. So no damage except to my ego. Reminds me of an old saying about public confessions being good for the soul but awfully hard on the reputation. Rest assured that all of us have had our "moments." John

I'm sure you were just doing a quality control study for "Myth Busters" Their boat floated the trailer too.

Glad nobody got hurt, and no damage, (or that there wasn't a wedding at the yacht club :oops:

Yep. Did the same thing a couple years ago.

Your luck is better than mine though. Normally if I screw up there are 312 people pointing & laughing.

On the other hand when all goes well nobody is there to see it. Sagebrush blowing around... :D:D:D
