Life Jacket Clearance

I noticed the part numbers and the capacities don't match (i.e. the HI400 according to the HH site offers 25lbs of lift not the 35lbs as advertised on Defender) but it still looks like a heck of deal.

Does anyone know what inflation technology HH uses? I could not find any specifics about that anywhere. Mustang for example offers a hydrostatic auto inflate system that inflates based on a pressure change of being submerged 4" under water. Most auto inflate systems use a water dissolving tablet to inflate. This of course can lead to inflation if splashed, in the rain, high humidity, jacket left aboard, etc. This may be an issue for pfd's left aboard the boat for example.

I'm still on the fence about an auto inflate vs. a manual (leaning toward auto)....but I know that is another thread.

It would also be good to know the recommended replacement period for the triggering mechanism. Older auto-inflation devices required yearly replacement. Some newer ones now go considerably longer. (I'm getting an error message at the Defender Site, so can't see what they have to say.)

Thanks Warren,

I just ordered two automatic Red ones! Our old SOSpenders are operational but not USCG approved. Now I don't have to carry two approved Kapok vests just for show.

You have to copy and past the entire link.

The more expensive unit says that it uses the same inflators as some of the Mustang vests.

The re-arming kits for the 3000 and 300 are $6.95 and I think it would pay to buy several of these for each jacket to be sure that you have backups.

Certainly a great deal!

Thanks for the tip, I just ordered 3 and my boy ordered a new automatic. We have had Helley Hansen water proof jackets for years, very nice quality. I would quess the life jackets will be great.

Unfortunately they are sold out of the re-arming kits...

Roger, don't forget that the auto inflatables MUST be worn to "count"....

And I just ordered two.... noticed that they were backordered but then the creek is frozen over, so I won't need them for awhile!!

I ordered two as soon as I saw Warren's first post. Apparently a few more brats did the same in short order. Within 2 hours, the automatic models disappeared from the list. I just got confirmation of mine being shipped! I had a feeling that it was going to take quick action. We agree that the Red vests make a very loving Valentine present to each other. :hug :love :love :love :hug2
