Lets keep track of Good and Bad Customer Service

www.iMarineusa.com

Best price online for the items I ordered plus free shipping for orders over $75.

However, what gets them on this list is customer service. One of the items I ordered was a replacement transducer. I got a call from them today making sure it was the right one for what I am plugging it into. I was particularly thankful for them checking because it was rather vague online as to what the older unit needed and the Garmin site was no help. Turns out I had chosen the right one, but it was good of them to check.

I recently replaced my batteries with new optima batteries and when I put them in Carpy and plugged in the battery charger the batteries were up to 17.2 volts in a few hours. I put in a call to the 800 technical service phone number listed on the back of the user manual that came with my Prosport 8amp on board battery charger.

A man answered the phone and said "hello".

This guy not only knew my charger inside and out, but after a lengthy talk about the situation was willing to take a very liberal view of the two year warranty and after further talk about options sold me a new unit at less than half price. I'm expecting it in the next day or two but since this topic came up, I had to chime in.

This charger work well for 2-3 years and I'm not sure why it failed, but with customer service like this, I'm sticking with 'em.

I second the endorsement of Imarine USA. Great prices on the Garmin plotter/sonar/transducer I wanted, real-person customer service, a phone call to let me know the items had been shipped, and follow-up emails confirming that service was satisfactory. I will deninitely be using them again. Mike

Here I go again - I really like sharing good service stories.

Sportco Warehouse Sporting Goods for online fishing tackle.

I ordered some bulk packs of hooks for tying up mooching rigs plus some swivels to make them B~C style yesterday and got the $5.99 shipping since I was over fifty bucks. The package was at my door when I got home from work today. I ordered from them because they had the best price on barbless hooks and this is the second batch. The first order was quick and cheap too. To tell you the truth, my fingers are sore from line cuts and hook pokes so a few days wait would've been fine.

I've had nothing but good experiences with EQ, like everyone else.

I can't say the same about Master Marine. Last time I was in there, in the fall, they told me my Yamaha hydraulic trim rams were leaking fluid and wanted $1400 to replace (not repair.) I had a gut feeling that I was being taken for granted as a rich customer (if they only knew!) so went for a second opinion at Tom 'n' Jerry's (by Twin Bridges, one of the few Yamaha dealers around) and after examination they could find nothing wrong. Cost me $100, which I was happy to pay. I got the same kind of personal attention there that I get from Les and Kathy at EQ, so I'm planning to take my future Yamaha business to Tom 'n' Jerry's. But now I wish I had bought Honda, not because it is better (debatable), but because I could take it to EQ and have Carl work on it.

I took the 22 (sold last year) to Cap Sante to get a throttle linkage problem fixed on the Honda 40s. When I got it back and it was no better but a hefty charge on my card, I took it to EQ, where I should have taken it in the first place. They did the job right.

For chandlers, I have had good experiences with Fisheries Supply (be sure to sign up with an account as that will get you a discount), but their shipping to Anacortes is spendy so I usually shop there only when I am in Seattle. However, Cap Sante's parts department is a Fisheries Supply wholesaler and sometimes it is worth paying the extra to Cap Sante to save on Fisheries shipping.

I buy from Defender frequently (well not so frequent any more) and occasionally I will find a bargain at Defender through the Active Captain weekly newsletter (a Defender Deal every week.)

Yandina

I bought a C100 battery combiner this winter and did not have the system ready to hook it up for a few weeks. Once I installed it, I could not get it to behave correctly. I called the support number and got some good advice on one more way to test it but that did work either. I sent an email saying I would need a replacement and got an email back a hour later at 11pm saying they had another unit on the way ASAP with a postage paid box for the faulty unit and sorry for the trouble.

The replacement is working perfectly.

Hytech sales/Hytech Thermal solutions

I order two expensive gallons of SC1000 acoustic/thermal coating in late Dec and took about a month to actually be ready to use them due to other tasks on the boat. When I opened them up with were the consistency of a yoga mat and not coming out of the can. Now this stuff is supposed to be very thick and there is a warning about not allowing it to freeze but I had stored in our mostly climate controlled garage that doesn't dip below the mid 40s at the coldest.

I sent an email bracing myself for a bad response but instead I got an immediate UPS shipping notification saying two more gallons were on the way no questions asked. That was very satisfying and to came out of the can perfectly this time.

They may be closed due to snow

This area is having record snow fall this winter and today it snowed again

Marty is correct, call them

If you have to call them, then you have to remember what they said.
In e-mail you have it in writing.

Well said. I will not do business with a company that publishes an email address and then does not respond to messages sent to that address.

Hi Brent,

I had a little problem with emails going into the spam folder and I never check the spam. I got a call from Don in BC and found the e-mails so we should be back on track.

Thank You Very Much,

Great staff, and excellent work. They just put in a new AIS system for me and spent a couple of hours on the water working on system integration. For electronics work, and fabrication good place and the store is like a candy store of electronics.

I would go back, will go back, for sure.

Some folks mentioned problems with customer support from King Trailers on an earlier page. I bought my trailer in 1999, model KBT4000. I can't speak to the whether King Trailers are best for a given boat, but their customer support has been excellent for me over over these years.

I call 1-800-725-0155 ext.14, for Andy, one of their engineers. He has helped with advice and solving problems like wiring and upgrading from shoe to disc brakes. My brakes are Kodiak brand, not Tie Down which I think King may use.

Andy has been great, being easy to talk to, patient, knowing his stuff.

+1 for Rogers Marine, great folks that know their stuff and have a true passion for what they do.

I took the boat into the Ultimate Tint shop in vancouver and got the boat side and back windows tinted. They did a great job, the boat looked odd in the shop with a bunch of high end luxury cars but they weren't opposed to working on boats as they're all a bunch of fishing nuts. boat turned out great, I'm looking forward to more privacy at the dock or on anchor, less glare and the increased cool look.

Dockside Marine Repair, LLC- Just had them do the 100 hour service on our 2011 Honda 50hp. They did it while the boat was on the trailer in its parking space next to our garage. They showed up on time, had all the parts, and cleaned up, all in a couple hours. They will go anywhere in the Seattle area.

Well, a second thumbs up to Graham for fixing the windlass and showing me how to use it. Prompt, knowlegable, and reasonably priced. They come to you and show up right on time. They do it all. :thup :thup

I definitely agree with Harvey!! The folks at Rodger's are great!!! I bought my Ramarine C80 from them, plus my radios. They helped me trouble shoot a bad GPS antenna that I damaged when I installed it, and they were even tactful when telling me that I had my thumb over the mike on the Icom, and that was the reason that people were just hearing carrier.
