Learning the C-Dory market

Seems too good to be true, to me.

Either the seller is not all there or there is something major wrong with it?

Good luck in your quest.

I talked to the guy on the phone, he said it was little used. He seemed surprised that the ad was up for an hour and he already had several calls.

I just, literally, missed the boat.

One has to be ready for this kind of bargain, whether it's a total miracle price like this one, or just a very good buy.

1.) Keep a vigilant eye on sources like Craig's List, etc. A few minutes is all the difference between a boat (or anything else) and NOTHING.

2.) Have CASH on hand, if possible,or at least enough cash to close the deal while you run to the bank, etc.

3.) Do your research beforehand, so you won't have to hesitate when you see a listing. You should know the prices, and exactly what you want and/or will accept. Otherwise, while you're mulling it over, it's GONE!!!

4.) Use some search tools like Craig's Helper to assist you on searching for your objective. Make it a true Treasure Hunt. It's a lot of fun to boot!

5.) Be ready to travel, it's a real advantage to those who can, a big time disadvantage to those tied down! How far would you have gone to get this boat mentioned above?

Give 'em da business!!!

If it is a complete "no-brainer", tell him you are on the way to his place with the full asking price and will take the boat with you tonight. I'd be agressive and get in front of the others - doesn't hurt trying.

Hard to turn away a willing cash buyer with a hitch on the truck ready to roll.

Just get it done - Good luck.

We bought our boat sight unseen (save for the posted photos) and the ad was posted for only 61 minutes. You simply have to be ready to go at the drop of a hat. Keep your eyes open...deals are out there.

Good luck and be ready as Sea Wolf and 416Rigby indicated. I got a call from Roger Johnson, SENSEI, just cross the island bridge from you one day. I was already traveling south and he told me about the deal on the 18 Angler I got. I called the lady and told her to please hold it as I was in my tow vehicle on the way....but was about 500+ miles away...but gaining on her home.

She called me back in about two hours...and asked if I was really on the way as someone else had already showed up and was wanting to pay full price for the boat. I am glad she had a bit of character about her...as she held the boat for me for a few more hours as to allow me to get there. Now, that is more like a C-Dory owner :thup
....rather than one who would sell it out like on a deal BRAZO suggest.... :thdown

bad BRAZO bad... Round here, that type of business practice could get you a few more thru hull holes...without sealants.

Keep on searching, and be ready. What size are you looking for?

Last year while selling our 32' Sundowner Tug, we held the boat for a buyer for 30 days after he assured us that there was no question that he and his brother would purchase the boat. He and his brother flew out and before a sea trial or survey they decided the boat was too big for them to handle - after talking with them I would agree. One of them was a doctor and had plenty of money to close the deal.

During this 30 days, we had many many serious inquiries to sell the boat (ready to buy right now) - we didn't. Thankfully, within weeks we had a buyer fly in and bought it at full list after survey.

So, there are no rules - outside of contractual rules and unethical tactics.

I still say, go for it - you can always repair the extra thru-hull holes.

Tom-

A nice Classic CD-22 for just under $7000, as I remember! And with 281 hrs on the motor, although the hr meter showed 181 in the photo, I think!
