Landfall along the Chesapeake

I just finished reading "Landfall along the Chesapeake" about the professor from NC who took a 22' C-Dory along the same route that John Smith did.

It isn't a bad read at all, kind of amusing in some regards, a little heavy on some of the environmentalism in other places.

If you are interested in reading it, let me know and I will send you the book for free, just agree to pass it on to another C-Brat who may be interested when you are done.

The book is a hardback and a discard from Baltimore Public Library and in good shape

Packaged and in the mail. I put a C-Brats card for everyone to sign and send along with it for fun.

Great day out on the Chesapeake today, though it sure wasn't the 1 ft waves and 5kt winds predicted, more like 3-4 at the CBBT with 15kt winds. Even at the HRBT it was rockin and rollin. In by the MMBT was more like it, but we did get 4 flounder and lots of croaker. Watched a CG Cutter and aircraft carrier go out and saw dolphins and sandbar sharks.

Check out John Page Williams' Chesapeake: Exploring the Water Trail of Captain John Smith, too. Published by Natl Geog, it covers the same routes without all the digressions of Landfall.

I have to apologize for taking so long to read this book!

Bill, the book is ready to be dropped off at the post office
so you should have it soon.

We spent a summer boating on the Chesapeake, and any history and description of it is fascinating. So those books sound good, and:

I just ordered the book "Chesapeake: Exploring the Water Trail of Captain John Smith" from Amazon. Cost $4.23, $1.24 for the book and $3.99 for shipping. Compare that with a trip to the library, or packaging up the book and mailing it + a trip to the P.O.

I get a lot of (obscure) reading material this way.

"Landfall along the Chesapeake" is 12.37 + shipping, so I got the cheap one.

Look forward to receipt -- something to read while flying to DC for Christmas with a couple of our kids.

BTW Captains Cat I believe you are after me -- please send address then I'll have it when I'm done

I just got my copy of Chesapeake: Exploring the Water Trail of Captain John Smith, by John Williams.

It's a beautiful book, with gorgeous illustration. which it should be, since it's published by National Geographic. I will say that I've been through the Chesapeake a couple of times and never seen it like that. It even has some antique illustration from past times.

Have I read it? Not yet and it'll take some time as the writing is well done. There is even a chapter on boating the Chesapeake, especially if you like canoes.

Price, on amazon.com: $1.24 for the book and $4.00 shipping. I don't know why, but it's a terrific book.

Book arrived in yesterday's mail -- now if the boss would allow me to read instead of decorating tree and wrapping packages to ship to grandkids in the UK I could get it read!

Byrdman,
I randomly check in on C Brats...and found your query about our music.

The last CD, CHESAPEAKE SCENES: THE WORDS AND MUSIC OF THE BAY, is closing in on sell out...For anyone interested it is $15,plus shipping of $2...Great music and words on the largest estuary in US.

We are ready for a new recording, just waiting for the financing...

For now, I am with my R. 25, BANJO, a lovely boat...It is for sale, only due to some health reasons and the miserable economy.

I read the C Brat site always, and with great loyalty.

The book came in the mail yesterday, thanks Bill. I made up for SeaSpray's slow read and read it through last night, don't remember the Ball Drop! Just looked over the thread and cannot see who is next??

I'll look again but in case there is no one, the first one to PM me with an address is next. And this one couldn't have been too expensive inasmuch as it used to be a library book. TIVO, I hope you bought it!! By the time you get it back and take it back, it'll cost you a hundred bucks!! :disgust

Happy New Year!!

Yes it is a discarded library book. My wife has an online book business (Mother Earth Books) and buys discarded library books in bulk, sifts through for books of value and re-sells them. She is one of those dealers you see on Amazon "15 new and used from $2.00".

Hope you all enjoyed. My wife bought me a neat NEW book for Christmas, Honey, Lets Buy a Boat. Very humorous account of taking the Loop Cruise up the ICW and down the Mississippi route around the Eastern U.S. Very funny, I highly recommend it.
