Looking for eating places with floating public docks. We know about Coulon Park, Fisherman's Terminal and Ivars Salmon House. Are there any up in Kenmore, Kirkland (Carrilion?) and South Lake Union? I've cruised by the Wooden Boat Museum but cant seem to locate any public docks. Thanks.

We used to go to Carillon Point regularly in the summer and there were several restaurants and a free public dock. Kirkland also has a public dock within walking distance of lots of restaurants in downtown Kirkland.

There used to be a Cucina Cucina and Hooters with dock space in South Lake Union. Not sure if those restaurants are still around, but if not I bet new restaurants have taken their place.

Marty,

There's a good book for just this purpose called "Cleats and Eats" and it covers the Seattle area. I have a copy someplace, I'll see if I can't find it. As for your specific questions, Carillon Point does have several restaurants nearby including Bin on the Lake (high end) and Beach Cafe (mid price). Here's a link to restaurants nearby. The Carillon Point Public Guest Pier is available on a first come first serve basis unless signs on the dock say otherwise. I've boated there a few times for lunch or dinner.

There's no good place to dock and eat in Kenmore. There is a public pier in log boom and in theory you could tie up there and walk to someplace on Bothell Way (like Tai Ho or Jack in the Box). But there's really nothing close to the dock that's worthwhile and the dock is not exactly the best place to leave your boat. However, if you wanted to boat up that way some day, you could give me a call and I could meet you and Dot at the dock with a grill and some salmon and we could do a nice picnic.

As for South Lake Union - I think you can tie up for a lunch by Duke's chowder house but I'm not certain about that. It is pretty shallow out there so it wouldn't be too hard to call in a take out order, anchor and dinghy in for it. I'll look in my Cleats and Eats book to see what they have to say.

Thanks guys-Downtown Kirkland won't work for us anymore. Dotty can't handle those non floating piers. There was a time when we used to carry an extension ladder with us! I remember once in Annapolis when the marina tucked us in a corner way in the back, down about 25 feet from the road. We simply scampered up the fully extended ladder and went into the fancy hotel next door to cool off and have a wonderful meal. Like the song says, "those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end". Anyway, today we went up the north end of Lake Washington and up the Sammamish Slough to the second bridge. We settled for cashews and water. The Heron and the baby ducks and geese, together with the wonderful weather that Jim Bathurst brought up from Texas, made it a perfect day for Dotty and me. Roger thanks for the wonderful offer. We do appreciate it.

Hmm...do I hear rumblings about a second CD16 gathering? Cashews, dried mangos (I added the dried mangos, cashews did not seem like quite enough) and water up the Sammamish Slough sounds pretty darn good to me!
