One of the cover photos on the last issue of Outdoor Photographer has a shot of a double arch at Lake Powell. It shows a large round arch above a water level arch that can be kayaked (assuming correct water levels).

Here's a link to the photographer's web site/gallery that shows the image. Does anyone know which canyon this is in?

Thanks for bringing back some marvelous memories. We have kayaked under that double arch with our kids, and also visited it on our CD. A special place, and well worth the visit when you are cruising Powell.

Rob,

Thanks for locating that. I've been by it on every trip, and never knew it was there. Looks to me like a 'must see'.

El and Bill, you should come back as our guide one of these trips.

That sure would be fun. Your might recall helped make a geologic map of that area way back on a summer job while in college BEFORE Lake Powell. Back when it was Glen Canyon -- sure has been a long and wonderful association with that place of incredible beauty.

After reading C-Brats and Halcyon Days for years - and anticipating the day I might get a 22 - I was sorry that just as I found one, El and Bill sold theirs. Dagnabbit! Lake Powell, especially, was on my list of places that would be extra-special if Bill brought the geology to life. (Sure would be neat if you two wanted to make another C-Brat trip there!)

That said, on my first trip there (last fall's gathering), Chris of Rana Verde was an excellent guide and did explain the geology in a way that enhanced the entire trip.

We made many trips to Lake Powell with Chris. He often lead the pack and we did the sweep (bringing up the rear to be sure all was well and no boats had a problem). We shared the interpretation of sights and rocks, bringing our own experiences to the group - a great team, and Chris heard my rock tales so often be could share their tales as well as I. He's a great Powell leader.
