Lake Powell cruising

We will be spending 2 weeks at Lake Powell at the end of this month. Does anyone have experience/suggestions for anchoring a CD on shore?

We have gone in a housboat previously and used 2 large anchors from the stern corners to shore and buried the anchors in the sand.

I am would rather be able to go in stern first and have easier access from the boat.

We anchor with a bow anchor just off shore, and then let the wind (or a paddle) back us to shore. Then tie a shore line on a rock or stick in the sand. This way at night we can release the stern, and pull in rode to swing off the shore for the night.
We used to drop the bow anchor on the sand of the beach, just to hold her, but discovered the mice know how to run up a bow line and onto the boat at night. Chris (Rana Verde) bow anchors to shore, and uses a frisbee (sliced half way through), and runs it out on his bow line to keep off the "borders."
Two stern lines to shore, houseboat style, works fine, but gives mice to avenues to explore.
Enjoy your Powell cruise -- with the water down, we think it is even more beautiful since the interior canyons are out of water.

Thanks for the info. When we went on house boats we never saw any mouses, but they could have been there. I will very likely use the bow anchor and pull in for the day but let out at night. We are just hoping we don't get any of those thunder storms. I was asleep about 2AM when the wind suddenly tried to blow the srcreen out of the window. We had about 30 to 50 minutes of wind, rain, and lightning - the house boat was rocking!

Look into a anchor buddy. This is a anchor with a bungy rope and a float. Throw the buddy in the water near shore in deeper water then tie off to stearn. Now motor into shore and tie off to a sand spike or tree etc.. Now the bungy will pull the boat back from shore, but when you want to get in the boat just pull the boat to shore with the bow rope. When you leave but are coming back later you have a min-bouy marking and saving your spot. This was devloped by skier so their boats would not be bouncing off the bottom while they party on shore. Its on my to get list. If you are cruising or fishing a lot of lakes this is a great item. My freind chliff uses one on the columbia river. this way when the tide drops the river his sled is not left on the bank.
