Kate asked yesterday if dates had been set for Lake Powell this year. What is the likelyhood this event will happen this year? YES, she is interested in going!!!!!!

David, last I heard, Chris is no longer running the spring trips, just the fall ones. Dunno which you were thinking of but wanted to put that out there.

L@@K HERE (Chris' post) for the dates of the 2009 Powell trip (Sept. 17) as well as others.

David - we are leaving Fall City on the evening of Friday, September 18, and will overnight at Camp Walmart in Yakima. Then Saturday night probably to Camp Walmart in Jerome, Idaho. Then south into Utah, not sure how far we will get or where we will stop, since I am thinking this time we wll probably head for Bullfrog rather than Wahweap, definitely there Monday, the 21st, before noon. Stay that week and the following week, head back Thursday evening, October 1st to get a leg up on the trip back, home Sunday evening, October 3rd.

A caravan would be a lot of fun! I think a pair of CD25 Cruisers would get a lot of attention at the various Camp Walmarts! Robbi? Fred and Robbin? Ruth and Joe? Jim and Laurie? Russ and Toni? Bob and Betsy? Anybody else?

Lake Powell is a MUST DO destination, Bill says it is the most interesting place geologically just about anywhere. We just love the C-Brat camaraderie, the canyons, Cathedral in the Desert, Rainbow Bridge, the Indian ruins, warm weather, swimming, the great campfires on the beach, CAVU Ken's smoked salmon, Rockytop Roger's fresh bass, the whole thing!

Powell seems to be a bunch of loose groups, we will hook up with the others, Chris is a great cruise leader, and sounds like he will be up around Bullfrog more or less when we are launching.

Jody Kidd - what are your plans? When are you launching?

Pat and Patty, et all:

Diana and I are planning on going, and would probably be able to rendezvous and circle the Dorys in Idaho.

I am going to have to get busy and catch and smoke some kokanee to compete with Ken Trease's salmon. we are really looking forward to this trip.

Regards,

Steve

I'm headed to LP on Saturday to have some winter fun for a week. Ought to be some great sights, good hiking, fishing, and no crowds. Can't wait!

Well, I gave David my Stan Jones Lake Powell map this afternoon, we'll see! Should be great, we need to bring this thread up to the top on a more or less regular basis! Honestly, I can't wait!

El and I will probably be doing some cruising on Lake Powell this spring. No set dates at this point since we have some obligations to revise a book and that might take us up to April.

If others are interested in crusing the lake later this spring put up a post and we'll see if we can join.

Pat
I will be sure to work it in to my schedule. I haven't had much luck this winter getting down there. The weather has been bad on the weekends.
Tony have you sold your boat yet?

Jody,

I still haven't sold my boat. It's about time to put another ad on KSL and Craigslist because I still want a C-Dory!

I've never been there in mid-February, so it should be interesting. I'm not going to venture too far. Maybe down to the Rincon and try to hike to the top, then over to the Great Bend of the San Juan. I've always wanted some photos from up there, so I hope I can make it!

Tony -
Some years ago I spent several weeks alone on Powell in January (in pre-C-Dory days, in an open aluminum boat). It was lonely - saw only two other boats on the water in my traverse from the dam to Hall's, one of which had run out of gas and I towed the very relieved fishermen into a marina for gas) and the other was a park ranger patrol boat. It was a great experience - camped ashore each night, explored many side canyons, had to walk up the hill at Hall's to find the folks who could pump me some gas, and had the good (?) fortune of a blizzard with the resultant beauty. Nights were long and dark (got to know the overhead routes of the many jets while lying awake in darkness, snuggled in my sleeping bag).

You are in for a treat, and I would sure encourage you to go.

Tony
Now that spring is coming maybe someone will want it bad and you'll get lots of money to use towards a new C-dory. I'm hoping to get 1 trip down to powell at the end of Febuary. March will be 15 days cruising to Hawaii.

Lake Powell, September, beautiful scenery, fishing, hiking, warm weather, warm water, afternoon cocktails, C-Brats, all equal good times, Toni and I are in !!

Count me in. I am sitting in a small RV park in Chetumal, Mexico, near the Belize border. We head into Belize tomorrow morning and will probably not have a chance for wireless again for 2 weeks. I will be in the Queen Charlotte Islands fishing for a few weeks in Aug, so I hope to have some salmon to smoke for the Lake Powell trip. Like Pat I had planned to start in Bullfrog this year and work my way down the lake since I didn't see the northern half last time.

Been gone awhile, having a winter adventure at Lake Powell.

Left Bullfrog about noon on Feb 15th and motored down to the Rincon where we went hiking a few days. Never saw another boat the entire time we were on the lake. Returned on Thursday afternoon. Kind of a short trip, but I am determined to do LP again during the winter. It was beautiful!

Mr. Heater was our friend, that's for sure! I discovered a few things I really want to do to this boat to make it a little nicer in colder weather, so I'll probably do some of that soon. I'll operate on the assumption that I'm not going to be selling anytime soon, but I sure would like a C-Dory. Any improvements will only make the sale a little easier.

I have only had time to process a couple of days worth of photos, so I have some from Monday and Tuesday of last week.

I'll have to process the remainder of my photos, there are quite a few more. Maybe even the ones where I went swimming. It was a balmy 47.1 outside, but the water was much warmer at 47.4. Just a tad chilly, but nice to get clean.

The last url are photos my friend Mike took, much better than mine, so I need to give him credit.

Our goal was to hike up out of the Rincon and over to the San Juan and look down into the Great Bend. By the time we got to the top, there was hardly enough time to get back to the boat before dark, so we didn't make it to the San Juan. It was still fun though.

I have no idea when I'll make it back next time. I'd sure like to go again in the Spring, I had a great time on a spring trip last year. But, September is still the best!

Tony,

Thanks for posting the Lake Powell photos. Looks like you had a great time. I have been planning a Memorial Day weekend trip but after looking at your pictures I may have to find away to get there sooner. For some reason work always seems to be getting in the way. Looking forward to the rest of your photos. Let us know when you are headed back to Powell.

Bill

We got as far as Bullfrog - a little farther actually. We stopped at Hall's Crossing for gas and ice cream, which is basically right across the river on the opposite bank from Bullfrog. But we do want to meet up with the group, which I assume will once again be assembling at Wahweap. And for sure want to get in on that smoked salmon!
