Lake Erie CBGT/Cruise?

Hi Brats,

Marcia and I will be on Lake Erie (we dock in the Western Basin near Port Clinton) fishing, cruising, swimming and just having fun from June 14-19.

If anyone would like to join us for all or any part of that time we would like to share our part of the lake with you. This would just be an informal cruise, nothing really planned at this point, but I guess that could change.

We are in the islands area, with South Bass, Middle Bass and Kelley's Islands within an easy run and the walleye fishing is great. Pelee Island, the largest island in Lake Erie is thirty miles to the north and has a nice marina, but is hard to get into on the weekends.

Rollie and Mark- maybe we could run up to Lake St. Clair if that would work better for you.

Let me know your thoughts and we can take it from there.

Best regards,

Nick and Marcia

I thought I'd add a message (basically so that I would be notified by the site when any other message popped up on this forum)....DRIFTWOOD DREI goes into its slip on Lake St. Clair and out on the lake for USCG AUXILIARY patrols as soon as the water get soft again!! I'll be keeping an eye on the forum for whatever rendezvous might be happening!!

Hi Nick,

You amaze me; knowing your plans are three months ahead. I don't know what I am doing this afternoon. I did though find out yesterday that a friend of mine will again be renting a cottage on Kelley's Island sometime in June. I not sure of the dates but I think around the time of your plans. We did not make it there last year with our boat because of the storms, this year is a real possibility. Also, I am sorry I did not make it out to the SBS. I had to cancel at the very last moment. I hope you are making it through this Winter in fine shape.

Best regards,
Rollie/C-Batical

Hi Rollie,

We work around Marcia's schedule because she is still working and I'm retired; that makes the distant planning easier and necessary.

Let me know when you'll be on Kelley's and maybe we can get together and fish. It appears that interest, due to lack of C-Dory's in the area. seems slim, but maybe we can get Mark on Not for Hire and the Revdr down here, too.

As I said in my previous post...I'll be keeping on eye on the getting-together posts!!
Looking forward to those retirement summers when my schedule is more in my control (if that really ever happens!!).
C-DORY ownership might be slim in the area...but I know three or four non-C-Brats that are around Lake St. Clair and can contact some of them if there is a "rendezvous" (since I learned how to spell it, I want to use it!!).

Randy,

We dock less than an hour from the entrance to Put-in-Bay and used to dock within a mile of Cedar Point. They're an everyday thing for us.

It's been years since I ran the Detroit River, last time heading to the North Channel on our sailboat, and enjoyed letting my boat stretch its legs and mixing it up with the big freighters. I talked with many of them about cargo, tonnage, draft, destinations and so on. Very interesting stuff.

Bottom line: Marcia and I look forward to meeting other C-Brats and checking out what they have done to their boats, location notwithstanding

I marked the dates in june I'll watch for more post on this trip, I keep my boat in the salt river .
I would really enjoy meeting some other C- Dory people.

Hello Nick,
Just read your post and was wondering is there a place to leave the truck and trailer anywhere in the area you put in? We would be glad to join in if you wouldn't mind teaching some newbe's how to fish them Eire Walleye's

Jim and Julie

Nick, Bruce, Jim, Curly,

Last year it seems that I was on Lake Erie considerable more than Lake St. Clair; primarily because the walleye fishing was super. Also, road construction and traffic made it a little easier to get to Lake Erie. Though, Mark/Not-for-Hire, has not entered this thread, I know that he is up for some walleye fishing on Lake Erie and I would very much like for him to come down. Sometime during the first two weeks of July, we will be up in the St Mary's River for herring. I am also trying to rendezvous with my cousin, who is racing his boat in the Port Huron to Mackinaw race, for a few days exploring Georgian Bay after the race. Jim; I have kept my truck and trailer in the parking lot of Sterling State Park, near Monroe, Michigan for a few days when cruising the Lake Erie Islands and did not experience any problems. It is less than a 2 hour run to the islands, weather permitting. I plan to do the same this year. I notified the Park Ranger beforehand and received his permission. I don't have any marinas to recommend in Lake St. Clair because I usually moor at my old boating friends homes. Unfortunately, right now, I am consumed with being a principle care giver for my dear sister, who has cancer, and have not been able to give much thought to the Summer. In this regard, I apologize for not being more helpful. I would very much, however, like to be considered as a participant in whatever shakes down.

Sincerely,

I might be able to get a couple of slips were I dock Curly for those dates,
in the salt river. Please post how many we need.

Dear Nick:

Just a note to let you know that I am listening in on this discussion.... I am interested but can not make a commitment yet (as I'm still working!).

I have printed off your invitation, and penciled the dates into my calendar.

My wife and I camped (in our fifth wheel trailer) last summer at Put-in-Bay, and took the ferry to South Bass Island. But we have never had our CD in L. Erie; it would be good to have "an old hand at it" serve as guide.

Hi All,

We just got back from four days at our cabin (lots of mud and erosion from heavy rains a few weeks ago) and I was very glad to see more people jump in on this!

For those asking about ramps and parking: there are two large state-park-controlled ramps within 10 minutes of our marina that have huge parking areas and I have never heard of there being a problem with theft and long term parking is okay. No charge either.

Marcia and I would be glad to give local cruising advice, walleye fishing tutorials and act as cruise directors.

There are a few places where we can get our boats within wading distance of a beach or sandbar for socializing and East Harbor, where our marina is located is a mile long bay where we often anchor.

If we get enough people, I can check on docks at a marina down the harbor from us that often has lots of openings and a park area with a pool. I checked with them last year, thinking about this and they said that they would work with us. At this point, I would prefer to remain flexible.

One great possibility would be Middle Bass State Park Marina, kind of bare bones and porta potties, but a beautiful island, good restaurants nearby and available dockage if you get there early. On weekdays it wouldn't be a problem. Big advantage: ferry service to South Bass Island just a mile or so away.

Anyhow, Marcia and I will be heading out on those dates and look forward to anyone who can join us.

Best regards,

Nick and Marcia

Nick, How far are you from Brand's Marina in Port Clinton, I will be doing a fishing trip some time in may, and would then return with the better half for the June trip.

Jim

Jim,

We dock at Bass Haven Marina on Marblehead peninsula, which is about 8-10 miles east of Brand's.

Are you bringing your boat down or doing a charter?

Let me know when you are coming in May and maybe we could get together on Valkyrie for a beer, grab dinner or go out for a run.

Hi Brats,

If anyone wants to follow through with the plans that I posted a few months ago, now is the time.

Marcia, Boomer (the wonder Airedale puppy, nine months) and I are headed to the lake this Thursday. We'll spend that night at our marina and then head out Friday morning to do some walleye fishing. Will probably spend the night at Middle Bass Island.

Saturday we'll head for Pelee Island, the largest island in Lake Erie and on the Candian side of the lake. We'll be there through Tuesday morning, depending on weather and then head back to South Bass Island to clear in via the video phone.

The weather promises to be great!

Rollie- still interested in getting together?

Regards,

Nick and Marcia

Hi Nick & Marcia,

I sure would like to be able to meet up with you and go fishing for walleye. I had planned to be around Kelley's Island next week and thought we would finally be able to get together. Unfortunately, my boat is not ready for the water. I was in the process of re-doing the gas tank cleats when my sister's house sold. As executor of her estate, I have been busy everyday since then taking of all that needs to be done.. This is the latest I have ever launched my boat,. Normally, I am fishing in April. It has been a very difficult Spring.

Thanks for thinking of me. Please let me know how you do.

Best regards,

Rollie,

As we mentioned before, our thoughts are with you.

If you plan on coming down to the lake, let me know. Or, if you like, you are always welcome to drive down and fish with me on Valkyrie. We are docked just east of Port Clinton in East Harbor.

Regards,

Nick

Nick,

We will get together this summer, be it for a cruise or fishing. I actually got a little work done on the C-Batical today. Next week sometime is launch date. Thank you for your well wishes. You meet the nicest people on this site. I haven't heard from Mark/Not-for-Hire in a while he appears to be very busy with his job responsibilities. I think I remember how that was. Then again maybe I don't.

Thanks again for your support.

Best regards,
