Klean Heat

I finally found a good use for Klean Heat. Pour a half gallon or so in a big cast iron pot and light it off. Heats up the whole outside. Be careful if you set the pot in a wheel barrel, though. The tire gets a little hot. Bad thing is, a half gallon only lasts 15 minutes. But man is it warm!

I got called into work about noon yesterday and got off at 5:00 this morning. I slept all day, so tonight I am cleaning out the previously unheated shed so I can back the boat in. Got tomorrow off to take care of some business, so can stay up late.

Gotta go tend the fire.............
 
Hey Mike, what are the odds of the shed still being there in the morning? :photo Pics of the Vol. Fire Dept. at work would be a nice touch. :smiled
 
I once asked a friend how he got rid of old bad gasoline. He tells me he puts sand in an old bucket and pours old gasoline into the sand. Says it makes a great outdoors heater. I don't know if it works but it sounds like it might be reasonable. Anybody ever tried it?
 
back in the 70's I worked nights for a local processing plant out in the fields and we would use a metal grease bucket for a smudge pot every night. a couple of gallons of diesel,a gallon of gasoline and a tube of grease made for a nice warmer albeit a little smokey....lol...
it would generaly last a couple of hours

Sounds good to me! The sand slows the evaportion of the very volatile gasoline.

Let's try it at the SBC/SBS! You bring the old gas and sand, and Mike can bring the bucket and wheelborrow. About midnight Friday we can light
them off.

Each contestant gets one gallon of gas and pushes the flaming wheelborrow as far down the road in front of the motel he or she can go before the flame goes out. Best MPG wins!

Think me and SENSIE will stick to just burning wood late @ Blakely.... but, some of you may like this one for a gather round wood burning device... My younger brother John... "JB", found that if you weld some legs onto the bottom of the wash tub out of a cloths washing machine.... you get one hell of a nice outdoor fire place. The little holes make for great air flow, puts off a large amount of heat, can be moved about easily, and just dump it over to get any junk out of it that did not burn.

Can't resist Byrdman - those of us up north may not have a washing machine in the front yard, back yard or on the porch to use for such a project :lol: ......

But I like the idea...you bring the wash tub to the next gathering up here, I'll get the welding done...

You got my attention! You guys are great! Those of us C-Dory folks in the profession love the "job security" that you promise us. :roll: (Not only do we get to put out the fires, we get to start IVs and give drugs :smilep for pain relief).

Heck, Mike's idea of using a wheelbarrow is particularly unique in that the inferno can be wheeled down to the fire station for expeditous extinguishment if needed.
 
Hey gang. I started my fire service career in that thar department and since I will be at the motel those evenings..........I for one would not want to be the one doin the splanin :oops: :oops: since there are a few folk there who still know me! The ultimate price in long term harassment I would take would be beyond my ability to calculate, since I am on their retiree's list w/e-mail and the like! I'm sure firefighter Dave knows of which I speak. But, the look on their faces (observed from an obscure window from far away) would be priceless, to say nothing of what they would be thinking.......and trust me, that wouldn't be printable!

Don't know about using gas- but we used to do the same with diesel. When I worked for the Brazos River Authority in Texas thats how we heated our work area outside- about 200 lbs of sand and 5 gal diesel in a 55 gal drum.

Ha- Now that I think of it-- I recall using the salamander smudge pots on construction sites. We were having our weekly safety meeting when I saw a guy walk past with two cans of fuel- 1 gas and 1 diesel. he proceeded to pour the diesel in a gas powered air compressor and the gas in the smudge pot--------------------------- he sure blew the smudge out of the smoke stack when he lit that one off!!!!!! :shock:
 
After reading all of the above I thought I would go out on a limb and show you how smart I really am. In 1970 while stationed at Phu-Loi (Viet Nam) we would first put a roll of toilet paper into a coffee can then add enough diesel to saturate it. Then you would light it and begin producing some real heat. We discovered that if you broke off quarter size chunks of C-4 and tossed them into the can, they not only made great heat but they also would light up the area pretty good as well. Obviously this tactic was not advised for guys in less secure areas! I wonder if we will ever return to the days when C-4 is redily available again? :D Kleen Heat?
 
wow.... coffee can with holes poked into the side for a little ventilation...and looking at the pretty little fire..., bit of sand in the bottom for stability.... roll of TP, bit of klean heat... Now that is a nice idea for a table top patio heater....maybe...

Somebody else try it and let me know.... grin. :mrgreen:
 
This does not exactly sound like it would be eligible for Underwriters Laboratories approval!!!
