Greetings. I'm close to purchasing a kicker for my 16 angler and have narrowed it down to 2 choices: Yamaha f6 or Tohatsu 6. Kicker is mainly intended as a backup to an older Johnson 40, but I will also use it for some trolling. One main difference I've noticed is the Yamaha doesn't appear to have through-prop exhaust. Any input? Especially, how important do you all feel through-prop exhaust is? I do need the lighter weight of the single cylinder for various reasons, so really can't expand my scope to twins. Thanks as always for your suggestions, Mike.

We have had no issues with the tohatsu 6. Had it about three years now. Always starts willingly.

I have used the yamaha on my freinds sled and a 9.9 tohatsu on my boat. both great motors. the only problem i had with the tohatsu is the reaching the level to tilt it up for storage. it on the side and under the motor. hard to reach from the deck of the boat. susan could not reach it at all. I am 6 foot so if you are under that you will have a hard time reaching it. in the yamaha its on the front of the motor with in easy reach. The tohatsu also had a habit of falling down off the lock postion in ruff water. I solves this with a added spring in the form of a small bungee cord. drove me nuts for a while. now that was on a 9.9 five years ago. new motors my not be set up the same. but take a look at it.

Thanks guys. After (too much) deliberating I've decided on the Tohatsu. Hope some of you are out enjoying this wonderful weather! Mike.
