Fellow C-brats..I have a 2001 22 cruiser..I have recently installed a 9.8 hp kicker....it is mounted on a Panther Marine Tech plate with bracket ... at this point I can not tilt it high enough to get the prop from dragging on top of the water surface....any suggestions ??????
 
I have a 19. I use a 2" ratchet strap that goes from a transome tiedown, around the kicker to a u-bolt in the splash well that pulls the kicker up tight to keep it from bouncing on the road & stressing the transome. If I remove it underway the prop drags in the water. Its a stopgap measure but that's what works for me. Vern

Thanks Vern for the info .... I'll take a look and see if this may be an option .... I'm curious what kind of mounting bracket you have ?
 
Not really a problem if the prop is smacking the water when you are slow and in displacement mode, even fully submerged. I don't have a kicker on my twin engine boat, but when I had kickers on single engined boats, even if they prop was mostly submerged on the kicker, when I went onto plane at higher speeds, the kicker prop was instantly out of the water. In either case, I always put the kicker in gear to keep the prop from turning the drive train whether the kicker was in or out of the water. If you can jimmy the kicker prop out of the water with some of the suggestions, so much the better, but it shouldn't be much of a worry if you can't. Just my experience. Others will have other views.
 
I recently installed a 6hp kicker on my cd22. I used the mini jacker. You can see pictures in my photo album. At slow speed my kicker skeg drags a bit in the water in its fully tilted up position. But on plane it's pretty much high and dry, if you don't count the splash. :-) Colby

The kicker doesn't really have to be a long shaft. A short shaft will work just fine. Mine is a long shaft with the same problems. I raised the motor up 5 inches it doesn't drag any more and it push the boat as fast as it can just fine.
