kicker bracket issues please help me!!

Ok I'll cutt right to the chase. I have a 1987 22 foot cdory. I bought a panther bracket which seems really nice. I have a Yamaha 8hp 4 stroke to set on her. My real issue is how do you shim it??? The back of the boat isn't true so the bracket sits at a angle....it seem you would have to at least gain one inch to sit somewhat square. Please help I'm trying to fish this derby this weekend. I put it on with these one inch rubber grommets but a old timer said you don't want to make individual shims because all the weight and tourqe will be on just those two points...Please help
 
Just curious, but even though the transom cants in, can't you tilt both/either the engine and/or the motor bracket. I went on their website and it looked like there was a lot of available adjustment. I don't currently use one, but may have to in the future.
 
It sounds like you might have a "Classic" model? If so, I think it has to be 1986 or older. As far as I know, 1987 was the first year of the "modern" Cruiser hull, which does have a flat (albeit angled) transom.

Do you have the flat bottom, pre-1987 "Classic," by chance?
 
Well, if you want it square/vertical/whatever, you need to measure how much at each of 4 points (top left, bottom left, etc.) draw up a shim and have it cut, easiest on a mill I assume. That's assuming it's really flat and not curved. I'd make the shim in aluminum, since plastic may cold flow.

Just make sure you know how much the transom is canted with respect to the hull and how vertical you want the motor mount. Whilst Journey On's transom is canted in the vertical plane, the mount isn't shimmed vertical. I don't know how to figure out if the transom isn't square to the hull's longitudinal axis. If it's not too much, I assume the steering would remove any error.

That's shimming between 2 ea non-parallel planes. Try using 2 stiff sheets of cardboard, paper, etc. with the measurements you got and see if they make sense. Do this before you start cutting metal.

You could try to find a similar year C-Dory and see what that boat has.

OK....I'll go there. Other than looking goofy, what would it matter? It does steer and any slightly strange angle isn't going to make any difference since you can just correct it on the tiller. Of course, if you are just bugged by it, or there is a functional reason I am missing, you could weld up a custom aluminum bracket to bolt your boat and tiller mount to so it is all nice, square, and pretty. I suppose with gas, filler rod, and aluminum it would probably cost me about $50-75 dollars to complete it - maybe less......never built one, but seems WAY easier than a lot of things I've built out of alloy. A good welder could probably build something for a reasonable amount that you will like.
