Keel guards on Tomcat

I had one on our Whaler and worked great. We bottom painted right over it and it held strong for years. We beached that boat all the time, we never beach the C-Dory because we are in tidal waters now so no need for us to consider one.

I've always wanted to do that on our 24'. My biggest concern is the extreme narrowness of the spoons, to the point I never pulled the trigger on a purchase. One other issue i had was the unloading part when coming off the trailer. I felt the protrusion of the guard would get bumped by the trailer bunk and have a tendency to want to pull it away from the hull. To date I have never seen a TC with keel guards. I periodically have to clean up the gel coat/fiberglass but, 21 years in, hasn't been all that much of an issue. I admit their condition is not pretty to look at but it's underwater when on the boat so no one sees them anyway. Heck, the rest of the hull could use some work too 8) If I owned a mono hull I'd have done it years ago.
I prefer functional over beauty.......
