Kayaks....

Catch 22

New member
So i just got two new kayaks and all the gear, never really done it before but im excited to get in to it. I plan on being able to put them on top of my 22' angler, any tips on how to interface a rack of some kind with rod holders and instruments on top of the boat, i pretty much have a clean slate to work with as i plan onbuilding my own system for all this on top of the boat from scratch, they are 10' kayaks...

also looking for good places to go kayaking in washington, lakes first, then the sound, any cool ideas....thanks

I have a couple of Ocean Kayak 9 foot models that I plan to carry on the 22 this summer. My plan is to use 9 inch stainless rails like this:

I'll then put the Thule J racks on the stainless rail:

I'll use some Starboard on each side of the stainless rail to distribute loads. Keep in mind that I haven't tried this yet, but I'm optimistic it will work well and will allow the kayak racks to be easily removed when not in use.

Here's a quick mockup I did a while ago to show what I hope it will look like:

Hi Kevin,

In my album on page 2 I have some pics of my kayak rack. I made a rack for the front and use the radar arch for the rear support.

I made a very simple rack out of some PVC and ss hose clamps I had laying. The only thing I had to buy way the foam cradle that hooks onto the rack which the kayaks rest in. I put to small foam blocks under the racks for added support.
So far so good.
PICS in my album.
