I've got about 10 hours on my Sam's club purchased Champion 2000i (1600 Watts constant), generator/inverter. It works like a charm and for 499 bucks, seems to be a good buy. Time will tell in regards ultimate reliability. Starts first pull, and the pulling is easy. 50 lbs without fuel. Sound is very similar to the other 2000i products as far as my old ears can tell. May be some real competition out there with Honda when talking half the price. The Champion is stacakable and will sync with a partner generator for a total of 3000 watts steady running. I'm only interested in keeping my boat and RV batteries up and using it around my property for the occasional power tools, so one is enough for me.

No connection to Champion or Sam's club. Yep! its all Chinese made.

First congradulations on the 500 dollar savings! :D One thing that is nice about Honda products is they offer a whole lot real choices pertaining to parts and service down the road at lets say 500 hours. There are all kinds of after market accessories made for them. Resale value of a used Honda generator might be a little better than the Champion. Although I'm a fan of Yamaha outboards, I have tremendous respect for Honda products in general. Not that this matters, but we have a couple of their generators and a couple of their cars. Over the years at work we used Honda generator welders and Honda air cooled engines for concrete cutting saws etc. When I decided we needed a generator for our boat I went to the same place we always go the Honda dealer. Sometimes it takes a while but I'm a sucker for age old adages like "You get what you pay for" Best of luck and I really mean that.

you know whats funny. we today see Honda as a benchmark product for reliability. in 1980 it was a small POS jap car that only un-American union hating traitors would by. funny thing is have you see any 1980 fords on the road lately? or chevys? How they looking? how much money to get them to stay running? I parked next to a 1979 Honda at the movies the other night and it still looked good. Honda does make a wonderful product and is as i said a bench mark, but it is by far not the only great product built today.

I agree. My 1979 Honda trail 90 is still my major around town spring summer and fall transportation. Oil and gas and tires and brakes and 11000 miles later, it's still running great. But I couldn't resist saving BIG bucks on the Champion. We'll see how it holds up. I figure at that price if I can get 3 seasons out of it before replacing it I'll call it a good value.

Yeah mon,
I am a sucker for brand names. Like Sony, Panasonic,Chevies,Honda, Yamaha, Garmin, Lewmar, St. Croix,Maytag it goes on. I hope that Champion runs forever. Tom, we had a Honda Civic hatchback in 1976 paid 3300 dollars for it put 50k miles on it and sold it for 2700 it was a great little car. We didn't hate unions we just trusted Honda. I owned English motorcycles that needed constant attention. I bought a new Honda 750 four cylinder in 1969/70 I was twenty. It cost about 1500 dollars and it would blow the doors off the Triumph's with my wife on the back. It didn't leak oil, no funny electrical problems like the the Triumph's electronic wizard Larry Lucus (the prince of darkness). That motorcycle infected me with Honditis for life. I could not kill it. Yes lots of great products out there but only a couple for me. :|

I've had two Honda Accords, one a 1980 that lasted until well over 250K miles and I sold it for $500. I'd buy another one, assuming I was looking for a new car, which we're not. When the CVCC first came out, I remember my dad commenting on how he'd NEVER buy a Japanese car. He then purchased a Ford Granada & a Ford Pinto s/w. Both were crap. The next new car he bought was...a Honda Accord.

Now, take a look at Hyundais, espeically the new Sonata. NICE LOOKING w/a better warranty than any American auto. It's quality, service, longevity, dependency, price...all good things. But yrs ago Hyundais were considered crap.

I also have Hondas on my power washer & lawnmower. Both run flawlessly. We'll spring the extra for the Honda 2000 when we need it. The rep, quality, low sound production/weight, dealer svc, parts etc are selling points for us.

JMO.

in 1980 it was a small POS jap car that only un-American union hating traitors would by.

I was emailed by a friend that the use of the word "jap" was derogatory. Yes it is. I was trying to accurately show the historical attitudes of the times of many people. It is in no way the attitude or out look I have, now or then. I hope that no one else thought so.

For the record my favorite car was my first, a 71 Datsun 510 two door. 1600cc duel carbs, 4 speed, full independent suspension and disk brakes under 1200lbs? and only $800 cash. whats not to love??? :D . I took money from ever v-8 owning ford and Chevy loving redneck in town. give me a windy road for 8 miles and no one can touch me. also took some cash from a dr. with a porsche and a hand full of BMW's. the 510 was built to race the curvy mountain roads of the Sierras. God I miss that thing.

I'm with you Tom that beginning in the 80's, Japanese made cars were hands down better than American cars. I myself have owned several Honda Accords, Toyotas and now own a Nissan Frontier, which tows C-Dancer quite nicely I might add. :thup

Remember back in the day (50's & 60's) that "Made in Japan" conjured up negative images? I guess that's what happening with "Made in China" products now. It's obvious our attitudes of Japanese products have changed over the past 30 years. Actually, our attitude of American cars have changed for the positive over the last 15-20 years, after the wake-up nudge provided by the Japanese car makers. Maybe the same change in attitude will happen for Chinese products.

will-c. I learned to ride a honda 90 whrn I was 11? drove it all over Gridley Ca in the summer. It was my first taste of motor powered freedom. I also so had use of a 80? 750 -4 . man what a great bike. easy to learn and fun to ride. almost as much fun as a kz -750/100 form the same time frame. loved that bike too. well back to boats.

no that was pre star craft days but i did have a light jon boat that went on top and the motor in the trunk. I took that car every where. wheeling on all the logging roads and some places with out roads, in the snow, racing in sac and down at the levies. used it to go camping and fly fishing alot all over the mountains. great do every thing car. Never should have sold it.

well, i'm all american! my first car was a 1963 ford falcon. it was a piece of crap!
pat

ps: i purchased a 2000 watt honda gen 5 years ago for a nashville cd get together, i didn't get to attend and have never put fuel or oil in my generator. still in original box. not for sale, will use it for something, sooner or later
