Nice video. My name is Steve and I'm an RC-aholic! I have 4 power, 4 gliders and 2 helicopters. They fly jets at our local public dam park, usually about 5-10 of them any one day. Someone built a 1/4 scale AT-6 Navy jet (I think, it was about 10 feet long), twin turbines, amazing. For the smaller production jets you're talking about $8-10K, nicer ones $15-20K. They're mostly fiberglass, carry 1 gal of kerosene for fuel, lasts about 12 minutes air time. They use compressed air resevoirs for the retracts and propane gas stored inside for starting. They have internal batteries and starter motors that start the engines completely remotely. To fly them requires special tests, flight certification and $1 million insurance due to their danger (fire and speed). Too rich for my blood...

Carl, have you been over to Galaxy Hobby? It's over at 196th and Aurora (I think). This is THE place for RC gear, locally. I've been thinking of heading over there in hopes of scouting ingredients for an RC C-Dory. I was thinking of about 1:10 or 1:12 scale.

Tim,
You could always do it the old fashioned way by either getting line drawings and making up your own frames, planking etc. or, if they are not available you could simply measure the boat and go from scratch. Carve it out of foam and make a mould.........spray gelcoat......get glass fibres in your fingers...

Keep you and the kids busy for a while !!!!

I sort of assume I would need to create the superstructure, but I was hoping to find an off-the-shelf hull that was reasonably proportioned. Might be too much to ask, and I don't need a new time-consuming hobby right at the moment. I've still got a lot of landscaping to do on my garden railroad.

Tim,

Great VLOG. I bet all the kids (and parents) for miles around want to play in your yard !!!
That reminds me...about that 4 tons of patio stone I have to lay....

Tim,

Thanks for the lead on Galaxy Hobby. I wasn't aware of its existence. I knew there was a big hobby store in Redmond and was thinking I would need to drive there, but this is much more convenient for me.

Maybe I'll bump into you there!
