iPhone / iPad App with ActiveCaptain

I started this thread, so I guess I will chime in.

I had no trouble at all syncing the Active Captain data in eSeaChart on my Verizon iPhone 4. It took a few minutes, but it did not seem like an unusually slow process.

I headed right for the entry I wrote, Matia Cove (the little cove on the SE corner of Matia Island in the San Juans, some of you know it is just one of our all-time favorites). Still there.

This is really a great cruising guide, I am very happy to now have it on my phone. I have the Navionics app on the iPad, but I might have to get eSeaChart as well, just to have the cruising information.

Jay - I am sure you have seen Jeff's response, you do not need anything to use Active Captain data in eSeaChart on a iPhone or iPad.

You need a regular Active Captain account, obviously, so you can put your email and password for Active Captain into the eSeaChart settings. Then all you do is press "Sync now" and let 'er rip. In 5 minutes or so, the Active Captain data will be downloaded to your iDevice and show up in eSeaChart.

You don't need anything else. Honest!

To sync with Active Captain & use The "interactive cruise guide" it says on the Active Captain home page Navimatics Charts & Tides for $24.99 must be purchased to make it work because on the IPhone & ipad "Adobe flash reader" is not supported. Think the eSeaChart for $8 on a iPad worth it but not so sure with the additional $25.

May well be there,s a way around if so would love to be enlightened.

First--hard to find better response time that what Jeff gave! He (and Karen) really support the product, and have "given" many thousands of hours to make cruising life better for all of us. It is obviously not for massive financial gain. They are compassionate on what they are working on. I have always found Jeff to be very truthful, and involved in whatever project he was working on. (I see great potential for this same product in the RV and airplane fields also--but the boating world takes up all of Jeff's time.)

My suspician is that there is something wrong with Jay's Active Captain account and the way it is being interfaced with eSeaChart.

Bob, Jeff & Pat

Your help really is appreciated. At least I've got it through my hard head that eSeaChart should connect to Active Captain without the help of other apps. Believe I've tried the same way to connect as Bob and Pat, most likely there's some little thing or big that I'm not doing right or Bob's suspision is correct which would sure make me feel better about this. eSeaChart will not let me enter email or password in IPad, eSeaChart settings section even though I have them in Active Captain and when I do a blank settings page comes up that I can't access or write on. Then if I try to sync with ActiveCaptain anyway up pops the message please check your username and password in Settings and of course they're not there.

Sent message for help to eSeaChart and they responded with "will get back to me in a couple of days or usually in 24 hours". Will let you know here what they say.

You hit on a bug. Remember that eSeaChart with all of these new capabilities is about 10 days old. The developer is at the Apple Developer Conference and I'm sure he's all involved there - you threaded the needle on hitting things at an inconvenient time.

For the iPad, try this. When it's asking for the email/password, rotate the screen 90 degrees. That should provide the space to type in the account. I know a fix is coming for it and eSeaChart knows about it.

Jeff,

Tried the screen rotation. Blank screen that can't be written on goes away and can even enter password, but still won't take email address. Relieved to hear its not all me and imagine eSeaChart with make the fix. Thanks for taking the time to try to help me find a way around the bug.

I have an iPad too. It'll work. Just type the text carefully. If you think you've made a mistake, hit the delete key many times to clear the text. The text is scrolled above the screen - you can sort of sense that it's there and make it work.

I just checked and for some reason the "settings" works in landscape and portrate modes on my i pad. I have the first generation i pad. The the top of "settings" it says "navigation", the velocity vector 5 seconds. Next Disable screen autolock--"Off". Then active Captain, Show Markers "on", my email, then passwork, and date and time of latest sync.
Below that is the link to click "sync" on.
You can scroll up and down inside of the "settings" menu.

Version of eSeaChart is 1.2.0 (105).

Heading into Canada in the morning. This app looks interesting, but I will wait to buy until I can use it. No interface with he Canadian charts. I guess the bugs will be out by then.

Finally paydirt!! What worked was figuring out how to delete using the Ipad paste and cut system the writing that eSeaChart had somehow already written in the settings email enter space. Can't remember exactly what the writing said, but it was there from the very first time I opened the eSeaChart settings section and in the same form as my email address now appears in the email settings space. I found out when doing the deleting process all my attempts to enter my password was being added to the original writting but off the screen where I couldn't view what was happening. Others more knowledgable on these gizmo's would have I think figured this out much sooner then me.

Jeff, though my problem and solution was not exactly the same as the fix you suggested it got me going on the right path and without your encouragement and suggesting it will work I might not of had the persaference to continue trying till it did.

Glad you got it figured out. I believe that the original said "your e-mail address" the password was just a series of bullets. I figured that eSeaChart didn't know my password, so it was immediately errased. Highlighting either of these and then typing in the proper e-mail and password will deleat what was there before, and enter the proper address.

This is the first negative comment I've ever heard about NutiCharts. I get multiple emails every day from people who love it and can't believe it's free.

Have you contacted Nutiteq? Could it be that your particular device isn't supported or has an issue with their software?

Honest, if this were any other forum I'd just assume that this posting was a fake plant by a competitor who's pissed off because of the free program. You really need to contact Nutiteq.

oh I am not baggin your program. just spent a hour doing updates in the san juans on the lap top. I just cant get it to work on the phone. either the app closes or the active captian tags dont show at all. I most likely need to take it off the phone and reload ( the win all catch all for every computer hack IT expert on the planet, no offense to any hacks here and there are a few of you). I just cant remember were on my phone I do that.
