I don't have this one (got mine at Autozone or maybe Radio Shack, I forget), but I sure do like having an IR thermometer along when on the road or water. All kinds of handy uses. (For years I wanted one when we had them at work, but they were pretty expensive. Now they are so affordable :thup)

I have an Extech mini IR thermometer model IR250 (about $20)

It is accurate and the best readings occur when holding it close about 6 - 12 inches to the item being checked

ex
42.5 C calibrated thermometer is 42.4 C with IR unit
36.0 C is 36.3 C
50.0 C is 50.2 C
55.0 is 55.0

I checked a few equipment thermometers this am and each one is calibrated once a year to a NIST reference thermometer and thermometer testing machine.

The IR thermometer is very accurate and affordable

This would be useful for the WEED discussion A lot of hot air leaking out there.

Thanks for the info on this. I love mine especially when on extended hauls and checking bearing & tire temps. Do not even have to get your hand dirty and a lot more accurate. I have dropped mine a few times so I think now would be a good time to re-order. I use it too when grilling/cooking out. Have not thought about monitoring release temp rather than flame and burn temps...but I still try to learn new things each day! Thanks! :teeth
