In Seattle, looking to meet a C-Dory owner

Hello C-Brats,

My name is Patrick. I'm a copywriter who's been living in Seattle for the last 12 years and in Washington all my life. After years of sailing the sound with my brother in law, I'm considering making a boat purchase of my own.

Though most of my experience in Puget Sound has been on sailboats, I've always been interested in C-Dorys. As an active scuba diver, aspiring fisherman, and kayaker, I think the features of these boats are well suited to my interests and style. The biggest problem is, I've never been on one.

I'm wondering if any C-Brats in the Seattle area would be interested in a visit from a prospective owner, likely equipped with a few cold and decent beers. I would never expect to be taken out for a ride or given more than 20 minutes of someone's time, but if anyone's interested in sharing a bit about their boat in person, I would be delighted to meet up and chat.

For what it's worth, I've mostly been looking at 22' Cruisers but am open to checking out any model. Thanks in advance to everyone's help and thank you for this excellent site that has grown my passing interest into a possible passion.

Cheers,
Patrick

Patrick, welcome to the C-Brats! I'm sure one of the many local owners will pipe up and offer you a look and probably a ride.

I would suggest a short weekend trip to the Bellingham C-Brat Get Together. There, you'll meet dozens of owners and see various C-Dory models. I understand there will be a factory tour where you can see them being built. August 21-23. Here's the discussion: http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?t=22485&highlight=

Thanks for the replies everyone! I've got an offer to come check out a boat in Kent and may take you up on the idea to come to the gathering in Bellingham.

Yes, please do come to the Bellingham CBGT, you'll get a chance to go aboard a number of boats, see features and upgrades, and probably be able to tour the factory in Fairhaven! If you can only come for one day, come Saturday, walk the dock looking at boats and talking to owners, factory tour and potluck. If you can stay overnight, make it Friday afternoon and Saturday. Friday evening is pizza on the dock provided by the CBGT revolving fund! Sunday morning is omettes and Danish on the dock. The best part will be to see first hand the C-Dory "family" and the camaraderie of this group!

Thanks to all for the extremely warm welcome. I got the chance to go visit Spike last night and check out his 22' Cruiser. We had a very pleasant chat and it was great to finally see one of these boats up close.

Hopefully I'll be able to make it up to Bellingham for gathering.

Cheers,
Patrick
