I Started a Blog Too!

Marty, if that's all you're gonna use it for, you need nothing else. I've got an external, very tiny 80Gig HD run off the USB power and an external DVD reader/writer but use neither much. Also bought the 2Gig Memory chip for $15 but haven't installed it yet. I use it all over the house here and on trips. It boots up (XP) in about 22 seconds and is great once you get used to the little keyboard. It has good wireless coverage and I've used it on many trips.

I doubt if you'll see prices that low, mine was reconditioned (a mini 9) and I bought from the Dell website. It's only about 2 pounds and the battery lasts a long time (>3 hours).

I love our little Acer One Aspire netbook! The one thing the netbooks don't have that you might want is a CD/DVD drive. How do you install software on it without a CD drive? You might buy an external CD/DVD drive at Frys.com if you have to install Microsoft Office or a bunch of other software that lives on CDs. That will cost you just about as much as the Acer One Aspire or Dell Inspiron 9 unfortunately. I got Ubuntu Linux installed without a CD/DVD drive by making a bootable thumb drive on my desktop and booting the Acer One Aspire from it. Then you can install Ubuntu the same way you would from a CD. With Ubuntu (and all Linux distributions), software is distributed from online repositories, so you don't need to install from CDs. The only accessory I would like for the Acer One Aspire (and for the Macbook as well) is some kind of aircard so I can be connected just about anywhere.

You know, I think I actually learned a lot from reading that post on your blog. Not only informative and helpful, but very well written. Thanks. Now, just one more thing. I have been waiting for Dell to put their little Inspiron 9 on sale for about $200. I only want it for email, and to book hotels and get C-Brats when I'm travelling. What addons should I get, if any?

Pat-

Very funny post on your personal history with computers!

Lotsa' truth not to carefully hidden in there!

Damn!

Makes me want to hug my iMac right now!

Joe.

Perhaps the new MiFi will do the job. It connects to the 3g network (like a broadband card) and creates a WiFi signal to connect to the computer. No wires or slots needed.

A Google search on MiFi will get lots of info.

Today's installment is Home Improvement, the chronicle of my Big Home Improvement Project over Memorial Day weekend. If you get this via a reader, my apologies, somehow it got published yesterday before it was quite finished...not sure how that happened, give it another look, it is finished now!

Pat - I've seen David's handiwork and if I were you I would do everything I could do to talk him into to helping with (read doing) these home improvement projects. Maybe granting him more stock in the brewery, free legal services for life, whatever it takes. He's a close enough friend that it seems you could pretend to run up there on your own, David could do the work and keep it a secret just between you two.

OK, today is Charcuterie 101, Dried Pork Loin, Part 3, right here. If you have been following along Parts 1 and 2, you now have all the info you need to make a really yummo dried pork loin!

Today's blog is "Life Without Touch," - which actually has a fairly complete tutorial on how to clean the oil-water separator under the cowling on a Honda BF150. That and a bunch more! I hope you enjoy reading these as much as I enjoy writing them! Leave a comment!

Pat, nice entry on your blog. Your personality is really starting to show in your writing style. Very easy-going with a nice rhythm.

Keep 'em coming!

Peter

PS - So when do you want to install that S1000??

Thanks for the kind words, Peter! I would write these even if nobody read them, but it is nice to know that somebody does! Charlie left a comment on the blog, so I know he read it as well.

On the S1000, have to check with the Chancellor of the Exchequer, but we could do the Q and beer thing just for the fun of it sometime, no?

For some reason, I have been unable to connect to my former blog. Not that I have had much to say recently, but it kind of irritated me, so I just started a new one here. The first one is about my "new" car. It was actually written last fall. Enjoy!

Great story Pat. I had a 65', 68', and 71' VW Bug, a 67' VW Bus and a 73' VW Camper. Like you, they took me to some memorable places and many good times. I have told Toni that I would love to own at least one more. Congratulations on your new "old" ride.
I still have my "Everything you need to know about Volkswagons for Dummys" book if you need some help with adjusting those valves.

Patty says I should repost the other articles from the original blog - what say you all? Which of course include the article about how Russ and Toni can never be on "vacation" again, which has been immensely amusing!

Pat, I'll have to go look at it again. Hope it's more exciting than Jon's!
