I just ordered a Cape Cruiser

Hi all,

I would like to let everyone know that Red Fox (Greg) has a MSN site--C-DoryRedFox--which welcomes Cape Cruiser and C-Dory owners and enthusiasts. The C-Dory section displays modifications and photos of Gregs 22 Classic flat bottom C-Dory and we have photos of the Cape Cruiser boats.

The site doesn't require membership to view and is linked from this front page(lower left corner).

Probably most of the new Cape Cruiser owners are only apologeticaly rationalizing and defending their purchase choice and only a few will be aggressively and/or negatively comparing the two boats, but the effect of any discussion of the relative virtues seems to agitate some, if not many, C-Dory owners.

Realizing this, the low profile road is a safer route for now, unless a new CC owner or advocate decides to make an issue of it, in which case we're right back to the unplesantness.

Understanding this in the short term, even if it means holding your opinion to yourself, makes for a better, more peaceful, website.

For those who want to discuss the various virtues of the two boats and champion the Cape Cruiser, there will hopefully be a website soon where that can be done with the same loyalty devotion, and relish there that we do here for the C-Dory.

In the meantime, "Just Be Nice".

Joe.

Hi all,

Sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone. I didn't mean to say that the Cape Cruiser is better than the C-Dory in any way. The C-Dory has many aspects to it that are supperior to the Cape Cruiser (lighter, more fuel efficient, easier to tow, needs smaller OB because it's lighter, proven track record, etc. etc.) I just meant to say that the CC fit my needs better. I was excited about my new boat and thought I would share that with people who could appreciate it because their boats are so simular. I respect C-Dory's a lot. That's why I started looking at this style of boat.

Thanks,
Bill

regarding the cape cruiser. i also looked at the 2006 model, liked it, but instead chose to purchase a 2003 c-dory 22' cruiser, powered by twin 40hp hondas. while this medium appears to be free in nature, i believe promoting vessels, other than c-dorys, would not be appropriate. i might be wrong, just my humble opinion. both vessels are similarly equipped, and therefore, sharing of information regarding modifications and add on's would be of great interest, while at the same time not diminishing the c-dory line. so, congratulations on your purchase and please take this message in the spirit it is intended. after all, we are all brother boaters.

Bill-

Thanks for the note!

I'm sure you're sincere and only being honest and forthright in what you're saying.

The reactions that one gets around here to the Cape Cruiser are not totally rational and are tainted by the short recent history between the two boats and an individual person.

Please don't take it personally.

The Cape Cruiser is an "electrode" issue for many C-Dory folks, and knowing that, one can avoid pushing the button!

Joe.

While not wanting to stir things up..... but.... I clicked on the Red Fox button on the home page for the Cape boats. It almost looks like an elaborate, multi-tiered ad for Cape Cruiser factory and dealer. Also, the same pic that is shown on this thread is on an ad-like album on Red Fox's site.

Is it possible that Cape Cruiser is setting something up to look like the non-commercial C-DOG or C-BRATS site, when it actually is an elaborate advertising front?

John

I hope we do not ruin Tyboo (Mike’s) 2000th post. I know he is waiting for just the right moment and I don’t think it is to respond to this thread.

It's DejaVu all over again! Some of these remarks remind me of the good old days when Red Fox and TyBoo were 86'd from the C-Dogs. I hope we can maintain an open mind and a sense of humor.

Leo-

I think the world's big enough for all of us with our C-Dorys, Toland 18-8s, Cape Cruisers, and tons of other boats.

Just time to respect the boundaries of a C-Dory website owners group known as the C-Brats and those that own that specific boat.

I'm sure all of us, including Red Fox, have our own opinion of the Cape Cruiser and all the rest of the boats available.

No point in inflaming the discussion and spoiling the very best boating website in existence!

Joe.

catdogcat-

Short answer:

Mike and Greg had a disagreement with the original owner about whether they could joke around and socialize some instead of just doing tech talk.

Add personality differences and a zealous site owner who felt he could determine protocol and discussion tone.

Big fiasco.

New C-Brat site created.

Two sites co-exist until recently.

This is what we've got left.

Let's take care of it.

My apologies for the over-simplified summary.

Joe.

On reading my last post about Cape Cruisers it is clear I could have been misunderstood. I was simply welcoming Bill and grousing about a C.C. rep at the Everett boatshow. I didn't mean to suggest there would be any oneupmanship here. My apologies for muddy writing.

DrJohn and everyone,

Please don't imply any bad motives to Cape Cruiser or anyone over the photo albums on C-DoryRedFox.

I created some of those albums by using photos taken from several locations on the web. Some of them may be the same as the ones posted by the dealer. I created the web page from members photos.

Other than the dealer's photo albums, all Cape Cruiser info was put there by myself, Greg, or the members.

Thanks,

Hey - I was banned too, dammit. Gimme the respect I deserve. :P

Hey, I bet I could have gotten banned if I knew about the site back then. Does that count for anything? I've been thrown out of worse places....

Addendum to History of the C-Brat World, Book I:

"Then there was the evil, underhanded, and plotting mastermind behind the plan to overturn the ruling heirachy in the C-Dory World and create a free-flowing, easy going "Pub" to accompany the staid and formal Libray of Information. DaNag Bill was the epitomy of undisciplined rebellion bent on taking over the cybernetic empire of the evil Grand PooBah................"

No Pulitzer Prize, huh?
