I Bought That 22' C-Dory in Honolulu

I am re-posting this portion of a previous post here, since I should have made 2 separate posts with my prior posting. I am the proud owner of a C-Dory(I am thelucky bugger who picked up the 1994 22' cruiser that was for sale in Hawaii). By the way, I did adhere to the advice of others on this website, and had the marine survey done on the boat before purchasing it. The boat itself was in good shape other than needing a good polish and a little sanding and refinishing of the interior wooden surfaces. No waterlogged hull, despite having been in the water continuously for the past 12 years. The twin BF 45 outboards looked good up top and ran excellent. However, the lower drive unit casings on both engines were cracked and corroding. I was able to get the price lowered a bit because of this, and am having those lower units replaced right now. I think that I still got a pretty good deal. Once I get the boat from Honolulu to where I live on the Big Island, I will begin outfitting it with all of the goodies. It has virtually no upgrades, so I plan on installing some nice electronics, an anchor windlass, trim tabs, fish box, live well, etc. The bottom was last painted 2 years ago, and although it was cleaned on a routine basis, I think that it could use some work. I am thinking about sanding it, and then putting on some sort of sealer as opposed to paint, since I plan on trailering it and don't plan on leaving it in the water for longer than a few days at a time. I am sure that I will be researching this website often in the next several months!!!

By the way, its going to cost me about $1200 to ship the boat and trailer here from Honolulu. To ship the trailer alone will only be about $300. I don't have the experience to drive the boat from Honolulu to the Big Island myself but if there is anybody out there who has the experience, a strong sense of adventure, and would like to bring their handheld gps(I'm purchasing a good Epirb), it would be great to cruise the boat over here via Molokai, Lanai, and Maui. I could fly over and meet-up in Honolulu.

Congrats and what a tempting offer! I did pop up a map to see how far the runs between the islands are and to my surprise, it's not that bad. However, the swells can be large and you really need the right weather window to make such a trip. Too bad that Hawaii has yet to create an inter island ferry like we have here in WA and in BC and AK. It would be a lot cheaper to ship it by driving it onto a ferry (if one existed).

Have fun outfitting the new boat. There's plenty of people here who will be happy to live vicariously and give you advice on what to buy...

Tempting.... Tempting..... Tempting.....
Maybe the former owner would be interested?
I have my own PLB, redundant nav systems and piloting experience....
Tempting...

Sure we could troll for Marlin along the way, although I'm not really sure what we would do with such a large fish...maybe sleep in the V-Birth?

Yeah, very enticing, we definately could troll along the way. The Mahi action has been good lately. Also, I think that the plane tickets over here should be down given that Spring Break has passed and summer has not arrived yet. I'm looking at Raymarine E & C Series packages. Maybe can get the chartplotter installed beforehand, but doubt on the radar since I'm planning on an arch.
