hydraulic steering --dual helm

Hi Guys, I'm sure glad I started this little subject. We've got a lot of information, tremendous interaction, and some fun bantering. What more can we ask for? I think I'll sit back, have a beer, and smile. Once I get all of system parts, I'll dry fit em on the carpet and forward a picture . :wink Sure hope everything works like I'm hope'n. By the way, Les, is there a way to mechanically retrofit my tiller 8 HP Honda kicker for remote controls (seriously). Thanks, Ron

If you "dry fit" the parts on the living room carpet, you might be in big trouble. There will be oil in them for sure, and unless you are an extraordinary (read: not normal) male, you will make a mess. Usually, those kind of messes require a new carpet to get you out of trouble, and, since you're replacing the rugs in one room, you might as well do them all. And then the kitchen floor, which will make the bathroom floors look out of place. Of course, while the flooring is ripped up, you might as well paint the walls, which in turn makes the ceilings look dull. By the time you get all done getting out of trouble, the place will look so good that you'll need new furniture to accent it and new lighting to show it off. The couple hundred bucks you save on eBay won't even pay for the dinners you'll have to buy while the contractors are remodeling the kitchen. You might be better off to just buy a new boat all rigged up. Never, ever, ever "dry fit" stuff on the carpet!

Thanks for the input. Probably saved my bacon for sure. My wife is understanding, but probably not that understanding. Of course, if she already wants different carpet, she might help me dry fit the system. I'll let you know how it goes. Ron
 
Well C-Brats, finally got the dual helm setup finished on Snoopy-C. Hydraulic steering by SeaStar.......plus cockpit motor controls coutesy of our Whidbey Island guru, Les. He provided a listing of, and ordered, the parts to convert my Honda 8hp from tiller control to remote. I still can control the speed(only) of the kicker from inside the cabin with a trollmaster that I was able to keep with the setup.

That is a fine looking install, no doubt about it. You will get a lot of use out of that. It's going to be very handy.

Now I'm all ansty again about getting my own set up. Maybe next year. Too broke for the hydraulics now.
