I need to top off my hydraulic steering fluid reservoir. Do you just unscrew the one screw on the top of the lexan cover and find the filler plug inside that?
I have the Teleflex Baystar steering. There is a black cap on the helm that unscrews and the fluid is visible once the cap is unscrewed. You'd need a funnel to add fluid. There is a special steering fluid made for the Baystar unit. I don't find any Lexan cover on mine.
You might think that any hydraulic or power steering fluid would do, but not according to the manufactrers.
They say that the fluids they specifically recommend have the correct viscocity and are non-water absorbing (hydroscopic, from the atmosphere).
Probably worth following their recommendations. Would you like to bleed out/replace the entire system's fluid? Might even be that water in the sysem would rust the parts! :smileo
