Aside from having a pilot house, good fuel economy....there is nothing to justify half the prices I see.
Nesdibus,
From my perspective there is a LOT "to justify half the prices" plus more. You failed to mention safety. Many testimonies have been written on this site about the weather/seas/storms these vessels have safely carried their proud C-Dory owners through. To my knowledge, there have been only two C-Dorys that have sunk or been severely damaged. One was rolled in the surf off the Oregon coast after it ran out of fuel and the second was pulled under the water in Alaska after the anchor rode became fowled in the propellor and subsequently was pulled under due to waves over the transom.
In the Pacific Northwest, we read of way too many other recreational vessels that succumb to the seas due to poor design/quality.
The old caveat....."you get what you pay for" certainly applies in this case.
Incidentally, in case you are not aware of it, the C-Dory that was rolled in the Oregon surf has been rebuilt and is now proudly plying the waters again by one of our C-Brats.
(There are also pictures of a 22' C-Dory on this site that was washed to shore in the surf in Mexico and suffered absolutely no major damage).
As far as I'm concerned money spent on a C-Dory, is money well spent and even if I make some "bone head" error in judgement on the "high seas", our familly will most likely survive the incident and be able to cruise to a safe port.
Perhaps when folks go to a bank to obtain financing, they should furnish the banker with a few pictures and stories of what these fine vessels are capable of and then they will see that they are financing vessels that will keep their borrowers alive so they can pay off their boat loan and they are not financing the proverbial "hole in the water".... :wink .
Your personal information doesn't indicate where you are located, nor does it indicate what bodies of water that you intend to use a boat on. That being said, perhaps a less expensive brand is adequate and safe enough for you and your family.
(I do hope this casts a different light upon the dollar value of our prized vessels).
