How to date my Honda outboard?

My wife and I recently acquired a 1983 C-Dory 22 with a Honda 90hp outboard. The seller stated the motor is a 2001 but the sticker on the engine cover says it meets CA 2008 emissions standards. How do I verify what model year this engine really is? Could be helpful when it’s time to obtain parts.

the serial number should be enough to figure out the year. Some of the manufactures have quit using the year.

Serial# is how the dealer defines the year of production!

It should be on the bracket that bolts the engine to the transom.
Wright it down / take a picture, call any HONDA DEALER THEY CAN TELL YOU WHAT YEAR! :thup :thup
