Northwest straights face book page and how to crab videos

This link will take you to the Northwest Straits Initiative face book page. This group has removed more gear from our waters then any one else. Their work has saved millions of fish, crab, mammals and sea birds. I have supported this group with my money and thing you should too.

But why are they having to go to the same areas time and time again to remove crab pots? Because people lose them due to easy to over come mistakes. So they are putting out a series of videos on how to crab so they don't have to collect your pots next year. So your pot's do not continue to kill our crab all year long. Great info for both the newbie and the long time crabber. Just remember that just because you have been doing something a long time does not mean yo have been doing right all this time, never stop learning.

Very good tips on the videos.
I started using weight in my pots last year and think it helps a lot with keeping it in one spot. Another bonus is that crab don't like a pot that jiggling with waves and/or current so the weight keeps it down. That's why commercial guys use it because they fish in all weather.
I also like to use the bait bags that are net and attach to the inside top of the pot with a big stainless clip. You can really save on gear by going to Bellingham and buying at LFS. It's worth the trip for sure!

I'll be out of Everett tomorrow morning, anyone else?

The reason for weight bars in crab pots in the open ocean is primarily to keep larger swells from lifting the buoys & pulling the pots off the bottom & out of the string. Commercial crabbers don't make money chasing stray pots all over the ocean. Minutes are money!! The pots will literally "walk" away, never to be seen again. Your right in thinking" jiggling pots catch fewer crab"! Agree, chewy bags are great. Bait jars good for longer soaks as hanging bait & chewy bag bait doesn't last long.
