Last week I was at my Honda Outboard dealer to get oil and filters. I decided to ask about the cost of replacing my BF75 hp with a new fuel injected 90 hp motor. There is nothing wrong with the motor and I am not really able to budget for such a purchase but the owner/salesman didn’t know that. I told him that my motor had just hit 900 hours and that I had heard some great things about the fuel injected 90’s and was looking to price one out.
The response I got was totally unexpected. He laughed and said that those BF75/90 motors were so good that he has several customers, commercial and otherwise, who have several thousands of hours on their motors and they keep going reliably. One owner, he said, has over 7500 hours on his and it is of real interest now to see how long it will go.
He said that he would be glad to take my motor in trade as he knows it will sell quickly but….to quote him….”900 hours is nothing”.
He admittedly talked himself out of a potential sale but I walked out of there feeling really good about my motor and the integrity of the dealership.
