How about updating your "Boats for Sale" Area?

Why don't you try attending a CBGT sometime, great fun and great people!
Peter

Actually, Peter, in my recollection it's very rare for folks who post in forums to start ad hominem attacks if they know at least some of the participants personally and especially after experiencing face time together. I think it's one of the BIG reasons our "only rule" works more often than not, so giving Louis the suggestion to learn just who we really are is spot on.

I find the entire thread totally amusing and suspected from reading Wealthywine's profile and seeing him immediately disappear, that he could be a classic internet troll that truly yanked a number of chains simultaneously. Not an easy task, but if that was his agenda, he certainly accomplished it plus the resultant flap resulted in improving our site. Not necessarily a bad thing!

Oh I speculated that Wealthywine might be a frustrated yacht salesman looking for a listing, but it's likely he was just frustrated and shifted into keyboard before engaging brain. Something I do on a regular basis!

Damn I miss boating and yanking Mike's chain about that Cummins thing he tows with. Family issues are seriously intruding right now.

Oh, and if I had a constructive suggestion for the board itself, I'd suggest the software only allow one "sig" per page of messages.

I don't know why we really need all these changes. I have found this board to be of upmost help in making the decision to chose a C-dory and selecting all the options. Every possible aspect of these boats has been well covered, giving each and every one of us the ability to learn from others mistakes and success. Now, when I have decided to sell our boat, I am very happy to have the opportunity to list her here on this board. And I might add that the response has been amazing -- I had posted the ad after midnight and had several e-mails when I checked when I got up. Priceless!

Oh, and I promise to let you all know if the boat does sell. And if she doesn't, well, I guess I will see you all out on the water.

These truly are great little boats. And this site has always been a great tool for anyone who has an interest in them.

Enjoy,
Corwin

Loius, you may want to reread the home page again. If you are having a hard time finding it maybe I can help "No rules, just be nice"

I agree with you 100%. I'm in complete agreement with you there. If the so called old timers gave the same courtesy to the first poster we wouldn't be here. Let's remember that.

My, my, louis. You don't sound as friendly as you were when you needed help.
No, when I see someone being attacked I don't sit around. I show decency and stand up for them.

Have a great boating weekend all. I'll be out rock fishing and salmon fishing. There's always friendly people out on the water.

Hmm, I didn't see any attacking - pretty much just saw folks *reacting* to a post that was less of a "Hey, ya know what might be a good idea?" kinda deal but more along the lines of a "Hey, this sucks, change it now. Quickly" type of thing.

Forget about new ideas, especially if you already have a CD and can't even understand what the buyers go through looking for one. Just kick your legs up and enjoy shooting down people with suggestion. Oh, let me rephrase that...suggestions that are written a little different than the way you like to read it.

We just made extensive use of the used boat forum for the past
couple of months. The used boat forum isn't that hard to use because
it is not that big. After a while, you remember that a particular
boat is sold and even though you keep looking at the ad, it doesn't
change :-) Except in one recent case...

Perhaps the orginal poster was expressing frustration over not finding the
boat he wanted :-)

I know we went through that. One thing to check out: At least one
major broker of C-Dory's does not list on the internet. PM or email
for more information. We found the one we bought that way.

Wow, what a day on the water. Wall of fog and swells 6'-8' high. 2.3 hrs to drive through the mess back home. Still worth it.

Sawdust, you're right. The Iraq comment was out of line and I do hope you accept my apology. 3 of my uncles disappeard/died in a war so I should know better.

The comment I made about meeting friendly people out on the water was misunderstood. This site has plenty of kind, friendly people. I know several people out on the water and that's what I meant.

The original post that started all this was also misunderstood in my book. He put his comment in question in parenthesis. I didn't even flinch when I read his post. It was a joke. Now that we've scared him off we'll never know and I doubt he/she will ever post again; atleast under the same alias.

The comment about close buddies around campground is cool. Great analogy.

My take would be like the stranger that walks into your church (if you go to church that is). You get to know the person. He/she may open up with an odd comment or salutation. Maybe they're nervous, maybe their not sure what to say...the point is you get to know the person before you let your self in all glory hit your stride. You give them the benefit of doubt. This website is not a church...i want to deflat that before someone writes the obvious. Like I said, that's my take.

In a medium such as writing where it lacks inflections we're left with emocons or creative typing to guide the reader into understanding what you're communicating. It's a messy afair. So let's not assume a poster that we don't know is a sales person, ill willed, ill mannered...all that originates from fear (sorry if you're a sales person). Let's get to know the person before we cast the first stone.

I've been reading c-brats for over 5 years and read the c-dory forum on msn when that was around. I've been around the block several times. I searched for 3 years before I finally got mine. Frustration doesn't begin to explain the search process. If you're rich and can plunk down 50K for a boat I doubt you'll understand what this issue is about.

Sawdust, thank you for your comment. I've read many, many posts from you in the past with great interest. You wrote on one of your posts way back when about BB King, you and the boat. I know what you mean.

Na Dag, you wrote to me in private last year about a CD that was for sale on c-brats for 2K over what was posted on craigslist. I posted that it was cheaper on craigslist and that you can pick it up for less.

Turns out that you spoke with the owner, who was in a financial bind and didn't know what the value of the boat was. I deleted the post because I didn't want people to know about the same craigslist post. You're action was classy. I'm glad he got more for it.

Well, this is my last post on this matter. I've stated my position and I doubt I'll sway anyone else's and I doubt anyone will sway me in thinking that the replies were just some good ribbing. Either way, I feel good about it. I felt civility was missing and that's what I'm calling out.

Although I have read all of your comments concerning the laid back nature of this website, I do believe that the Boats for Sale section could be better maintained with less effort and energy than it has taken to reply to my 'outrageous suggestions' :). It is not as if there are thousands of boats listed.

If one wants to knock me, one should pick on my land-lubbing, boatless state of existance, rather than my reasonable reccomendations.

I have never owned a boat, and have less than one hours experience at the helm. However, I moved to a water priviledged community three years ago and just kicked up my boat search from looking on the internet to attending my first boat show (FYI - Cutter Marine will be displaying a C-Dory or two at the Baltimore Boat Show in Feb-2007.) I have been on the waiting list for a boat slip in my community for three years and one will become available within a year or so (I will also be out of debt by then except for my mortgage). The C-Dory is one of the boats I am considering.

Wealthy,

You are absolutely right. It could be better and I'm sure it will be. It certainly wasn't my intent to jump on you, and I didn't intend it to appear that way. Our head nerd and his right hand (well, one of them) assistant both work full-time jobs. As a "monitor" I'm sort of a Wall Mart greeter, "Here's your cart, what may I do to help you." This is the first time since I've been on the site that a visitor has come aboard and given a suggestion on site improvement without even sitting down to get acquainted. My response was a reflex action and not good.

Our "Boats for sale" listing is a place where members can advertise their boats and is not "managed" by the head guy. A seller should pm Bill or Mike or send a message that his boat is sold, and the listing can be removed.

You are absolutely welcome to come aboard - and I'm sure Bill or Mike (our management) will have a comment.

Dusty

wealthywine – I am glad you stayed around. Your request is a reasonable request but it can not be done without assistance from all the people posting boats for sale and that is impossible to get. I for one would rather see six boats listed that have been sold than have one removed that has not sold.

At times, it probably seems like a full time job for Bill & Mike to maintain this site. It is suppose to be a fun hobby for them and if it gets to be too demanding, they may just decide to give it up.

I did some graphs for the C-Dory boats on this site for a while, but was not able to keep it up because of the number of new members and members that infrequently visit the site. They are not aware and in some cases do not care what is going on here, so they do not keep their information up to date.

I am sure Bill will let someone keep the Boat For Sale section updated. Any volunteers?

Gee... now that I have reread my original post months later, I have to admit, it was a wee bit toney. Especially the last remark.

Must've hit a nerve though, because it did generate a few replies.

Looks like I will be selling the Harley and saving cash for down payment money. It's amazing how much boat I realize I can't get when I stop thinking "How much boat can I buy?" and start thinking "How much boat can I afford to own and operate?". I've gone from 25/22 to 22/16 (want/afford).

The Bay Bridge Boat Show is this weekend (Bay Bridge Boat Show Kent Island April 26-29, 2007). Cutter MArine will be there with their new C-Dories. They are offering New 22 cruisers with:

Honda 90-4's
Tach, trim gauge, remote controller, cables and aluminum prop
compass
dual batts w/ boxes, cables and switches
sip off water separating fuel filter
coast guard pkg w/ 2 fenders
swim platform w/ ladder
anchor deck pipe
trim tabs
two tone non skid

for $47,313.

This does not include trailer, electronics, canvas, stove, icebox etc.
If I were buying a New Ford F-150, I'd know just how much haggle room there is, but for New C-Dories, I don't have the shopping time put in yet?. how much have you paid for your new CD-22 Cruisers?

If there's no delete feature to adds like most other sites then just state that.

What we don't need here is smart-ass, half-witted comments about the economics of running this site. We all know that the moderator is doing it out of love for the boat.

Suggestions and questions should be encouraged and this was a fair question. I was feel the same frustration before I purchase my CD so I completely empathize with this poster.

What are we going to do without the Smart Ass Halfwitts :moon

This is the best boating web sight. ANY ARGUMENT? Ok
I put my 25 Cruiser on the for sale area yesterday and have a buyer today.
Makes me sick to sell my C-Dory. But thats life. You moderators do a great
servise to C-Dory and all C-Dory folks. You have my respect.

Wonder if it would be possible (or a good idea) to make ads expire after a certain amount of time?
I was under the impression that they do after so much time and there is no activity on the thread unless the owner request that the add be continued.
