How about Twin 50’s Suzuki’s.

I am thinking about putting new Suzuki’s , twin fifty’s . Any thought on the matter? The 40 Honda’s I have now do about 20 mph. I know it is silly to put new engines on an old boat. A new Wallas stove as well. The new boats equipped run about $100,000. To rich for my blood.

I am an old member off the C-Brats and also of the C-Dogs. My old handle is captd. Nice to be back. I see a lot of old friends still here.

PS: anyone know what kind of speed increase a guy might get using the 50’s?
 
Look at Jay's posts: (Hunky Dory) on twin 60's. Sounded like the way to go. You will probably get in the high 20s light boat, with the twin 50's.
 
Something to consider is that the Suzuki 50 will have a timing chain vs. the Honda 60 which will have a timing belt. Both are good motors.
 
Planing on keeping our boat forever and being tired of fiddling with cold blooded, carburated engines with todays poor fuel, I made the jump from 40hp Hondas to 50hp fuel injected Suzukies several years back. Do it, what you'll like-
* engines that start right up and idle smooth
* engines that aren't as affected with elevation changes
* an important thing in this era, a woke boat. Those engines will really wake that boat up with a better hole shot and a more top speed than you want.
I still cruise at about 18-25mph, if I crank up the throttle it will get up past 30mph before I back off.

If you plan on keeping it, go for it and enjoy what will seem a new boat
 
Love my twin Suzuki twins. Speed is between 20-22 wife and I with boat full of almost everything and a 8’ Ranger Minto on top. Without the dinghy consistently go 22-24. When new we hit low 30’s. Before this boat we ran old Evenrude/Johnson which don’t even compare. Bet all are good choices now.
 
The 60s are intriguing too. The more hp you can safely get out of any given class of engine is also often the most efficient one too. I have great distances to travel where my adventures takes place and cruise in the mid to upper 20s if possible. And that works the snot out of my honda 45s. The 60s would probably really wake up my tired old boat.

I just changed out the analog gauges for Honda HD-4 gauges & haven’t yet been on the water to see how well they perform. When I do, then I will post in this thread http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?t=27697
more accurate fuel use numbers.

Read that thread post now if you want to know how they have performed so far & why I chose the Honda 60’s over all the other choices. They weigh 239 pounds apiece.
