House battery

I noticed that interior lights would only stay on when the charger was on
(hooked to shore power). Strange. Getting 13.6 volts or so at the house battery with charger on (original Guest) I believe. House battery is a 24DC-140 from Alliance. When charger is off, voltage would float down and settle around 5-6 volts so I think that is a good indication the battery is toast.
It is a lead acid battery and frankly I haven't been checking the water level - would that perhaps recover the battery at all? Or is it just best to replace in the interest of time... the battery is at least 5 years old and I usually just replace at that age.

Next question - should I go with AGM? Are those compatible with the original guest chargers? Or just stick to the same battery? Recommended brands/where to buy?
Thanks.

Replace the battery. Next time around check the battery water each time you go on a major trip and ever couple of months. If you leave the battery hooked up to the charger, it may boil the electrolyte off. The factory charger is not really a "smart charger". There are chargers which sample the voltage, and then apply a charge if the voltage is below a certain place.

You were just getting the voltage of the battery charger when you tested.

I went with an energizer 31 agm and replaced the quest charger with a Victron. I just feel more confident with my batteries being agm.

We saw the result of letting a battery run dry and the charger left on recently. This was on a Golf Cart down the street. The house fire destroyed most of the house!
