Hood Canal, WA bridge closing in May-June 2009

Yep - that will definitely add some time to trips for anyone wanting to fish for halibut in the straits or ocean if there are opening in May and June. Will also make Pt Angeles outings more difficult. For those in the north. You do have the option of driving onto Whidbey and taking the Keystone-Port Townsend Ferry. Also as the link Larry provided shows, the WSF will add and Edmonds-Port Townsend run at night. The Edmonds-Kingston run costs me about $75 each way for the truck+trailer (F250 + 22'CD) and it looks like it will be the same price to go to Port Townsend. The only other option is to drive around the south end - through Olympia and take 101 up.

A note regarding Whidbey and ferries. Auto service from Keystone is rather limited since the Steel Electric boats were withdrawn. Reservations are usually needed and with but a single boat operating substantial summer waits are not uncommon.
